The very last grapple mod you're going to need! Infinite ammo and durability! Faster! And no grapple bug!

What It Does
Provides a new crossbow (Grapple XBow) used solely for grappling. It has a configurable length, pull, and drop speed. It has unlimited ammo and shoots faster. Furthermore, it is immune to the "grapple bug".

  • Clean and completely stackable.
  • Grapple XBow has unlimited durability.
  • Unlimited grapple ammo.
  • Configurable max rope length.
  • Configurable pull speed / strength. Set this high enough, pull yourself to the ground, and kill yourself, parachute be damned! :D
  • Configurable drop speed. For those who want a little more granual control of how far you drop with a click of the right-mouse button!

The Grapple Bug / Glitch
One of the most annoying issues with most other infinite-ammo, fast-action grapple guns or crossbows came when it was accidentally (or due to lag) shot twice in quick succession. This, at first, would cause no issue. However, if the shooter were to get on a dino and rode far enough away from where the grapple hit (usually render distance), their screen would immediately start "jumping" back and forth, as if being pulled by the grapple. Hitting "C" would provide immediate relief, but the bug would re-appear the next time they got off their dino far enough away from the grapple. One available, more permanent solution was to use beds to teleport from one place to another (usually two beds side by side). This would clear the glitch. At least until they shot the grapple twice in quick succession again.

RopeLength :: Float. Multiplies the default rope length. Default is 1.0.
PullSpeed :: Float. Multiplies the default pull speed / force. Beware! Set this too high and it WILL kill you when pulling down.. Default is 1.0. About 1.5 - 2.0 is nice.
DropSpeed :: Float. Multiplies the default drop speed. Default is 1.0. I like 0.5.
GrappleSpeed :: Float. Multiplies the default speed of the grapple projectile. Default is 1.0. I like 1.5.
[LastGrapple] RopeLength=1.5 PullSpeed=1.5 DropSpeed=0.5 GrappleSpeed=2.5

yeah we accounted for that, but it still seems to lock shorter than what the structure render distance is (not natural world as that renders further away) but yeah, both the grapple and the zipline feel like they should be able to fly much further

@Vokun_Vulon: I don't know if there's a limit shorter than this, but I imagine that the hard-limit is render-distance. I honestly have not tried. But due to how I make sure that you don't encounter "the grapple glitch", if you don't increase the grapple speed accordingly, you could be waiting a long time before the grapple hits anything or "misses".

2 questions...
1. What is the highest setting for the range of the grapple? It got to a point on our server that no matter how much more we increase it, the max distance stayed the same
2. Can you make "The Last Zipline"? It would be great to have a zipline mod that actually let us cover some decent distances, the default one feels too short

If you mean detatch from surfaces, crouch, or reel in completely and press space to vault.

i know that know but how do I get it of of stuff

How do I put it on my crossbow?
Lao  [author] Jan 22 @ 3:57pm
Yes. We use it on our Aberration cluster.

Does this work on Aberation?

From what I can tell, if this is the same jerkyness that y'all are talking about, the jerk is to reset your velocity so that you don't take fall damage when you are going down.

@Darbbo Ah! Right now that's pretty much how the game is coded. It goes a little better if the DropSpeed value is below 1, actually (e.g. 0.7). Technically it still "jerks", but it jerks in shorter distances, so it becomes completely unnoticeable, at the expense of going down slower. I'm not sure I'll be able to change the jerkiness otherwise, but it's worth looking into. Thanks for clearing it up for me!
