[Fighter Blueprint] Kiith Somtaaw Acolyte (Attack Configuration) [Homeworld: Cataclysm]

Description
On Kharak, Kiith Somtaaw was a relatively unimportant kiith consisting mostly of miners. After coming halfway across the galaxy to a new life on Hiigara, the Somtaaw once again took up their ancient trade of mining - this time, the rich asteroid fields of systems around the homeworld. While they were not traditionally warriors by nature, the Somtaaw quickly found that the presence of Hiigara's numerous enemies necessitated having a dedicated heavy fighter for their mining fleets. When the Somtaaw found that they lacked the political influence to secure the use of the "Blade" interceptor used by the warrior kiithid, the kiith was forced to turn elsewhere for a heavy fighter design.

As luck would have it, the enigmatic Bentusi were willing to strike a deal with them. In exchange for their services in retrieving objects of interest from a dangerous asteroid field, the Bentusi bestowed upon Kiith Somtaaw advanced fighter drive schematics (which would become the standard for all Somtaaw fighters and corvettes) and a single fighter chassis schematic. While the Bentusi refused to hand over any weapon designs for this fighter, the Somtaaw found that even with a standard mass driver armament, their new fighter was more effective than they could have hoped for.

The "Acolyte" class heavy fighter - most often just called the Acolyte - would prove to be one of the strongest and most versatile fighters of its time, only ever being overshadowed by the rarely-seen Bentusi version of the craft. The Acolyte was well armored, maneuverable, did not require refuelling at all, and packed a punch. It could easily match any interceptor used by the Taiidan or Turanic Raiders, and could even be equipped with two missiles to hit larger targets hard. As a benefit of its precision Bentusi design, two Acolytes were even capable of docking together in mere seconds to combine their power output and firepower in a corvette-like combination known as an "Avenger" class ACV (Acolyte Composite Vehicle). Later on in the Beast War, the Acolyte was adapted to use energy cannons instead of mass drivers.

Kiith Somtaaw's Acolytes were the front line fighters of the Beast War, where they fought valiantly against the techno-organic virus known as the Beast. As the Beast Mothership also possessed the schematics for the Acolyte fighter, Acolytes would often find themselves duelling it out with other infected Acolytes. Kiith Somtaaw's eventual narrow triumph over the Beast would not have been possible without the service and sacrifices of their Acolyte pilots.

This version of the Kiith Somtaaw Acolyte is based on its appearance in Homeworld: Cataclysm. It is exactly 200 blocks. In combat, the Acolyte would swing its side-mounted engine/mass driver wings out and slightly back from its flight configuration. I have made both versions to suit different preferences. This download is for the open-wing attack configuration. You can find the closed-wing flight configuration here.

Screenshots (besides the auto-generated preview image) show fighters at true scale - when you use this blueprint to produce fighters, that's the level of detail you can expect from the final product.

This ship is intended for use as a fighter blueprint, as it lacks the critical ship components necessary for player control.

Suggested weapons: Chaingun, cannon, launcher

You may be able to find it today as "Homeworld: Emergence." It was re-released this past summer in digital form, but the name was changed to avoid copyright issues with Blizzard.

If only the game wasn't lost to the sands of time. No one seems to have a copy of it, I've lost mine ages ago and wish so badly after the new version of HM1 on steam that they would also do HM1 Cataclysm. Oh well.
