Communitas Expansion Pack
4 items
Description
We believe Civilization is a fantastic game, and aim to perfect it while remaining as close to the core experience as possible. We think games should be intuitive to learn, challenging to master, and rewards should match the difficulty to complete tasks. We also believe in finding balanced middle ground between extremes. We set a high bar for adding new things to the game, and attempt to first improve or replace existing objects when possible.

If you believe in these goals, try this expansion pack!

Requires: Communitas AI and Tools (Cat)["http]

Expansion Pack Parts:
  • Communitas Map
This map creates several continents with realistic climate, and numerous offshore islands.

  • Communitas AI and Tools (Cat)
Expands the AI and mod tools of Civ V: Brave New World. Both the enhanced gameplay and interface changes below require the tools.

  • Communitas Enhanced Gameplay (Ceg)
Improves the fun and strategic balance of BNW gameplay.

  • Communitas Interface (Cin)
Improves the visual interface of the game.

Just one issue I noticed while playing is that the AI tends to spam Arquebusier units in the Medieval era once it researches the technology, instead of building Longswordsmen. Thus in the next era when Arquebusiers upgrade to gatling guns the AI always upgrades all of their units and has tonnes of Gatling Guns which are relatively useless militarily. This wastes a lot of gold for the AI and results in little gain. I saw an AI army outside one of my city state allies with like 10 gatling guns sitting in the ocean around its border not doing anything.

Bad well at least when i used it. Because i Shaka would have the strongest military even though i still had advanced units and numbers he would somehow still be the first.

Somehow a remarkably bad mod. They get some things right but they have made a critical failure in balance and gameplay. Cities are nearly impossible to capture. Thus, the only really viable strategy in early game is to bum rush mass expansion. Ground units (including siege units) are utterly incapable of destroying even cities with 1 population. The game is ruined even in the classical era. Absolute garbage mechanic that invalidates everything else.

on domination the AI just spawns a completely unrealistic amount of units while somehow still supporting their economy, science growth, and spamming wars with no breaks to actually develop a balanced economy with no detrimental effects, was this intentional?

Great mod, it actually makes the IA very competitive and not boring. However, the AI spawns gattling guns and ranged units all the time without using any other land units; while playing America, the minute man should be upgraded as an infantry soldier not as a gatling gun and what happened to the American bomber?

Quick note: I've installed all four parts and boy is this a great improvement. Some things add to the game some things fix it. EG: Why did chopping down a forrest produce +2 production in vanilla? Surely CEG's much larger lump some makes a lot more sense. Combat is good, techs are more interesting, polcies more interesting, civ traits, the interface is an enhancement..

all around thumbs up.

I'm trying to decide if I install this. The features list cover a lot of issues I have with vanilla; this seems like a great enhancement. But, I keep seeing user complaints of bugs and design flaws. Can the makers please comment??
