Description
Project Orbit, as it is currently dubbed, spawned from an attempt to develop a 3D sci fi platformer, that was very much "mario" style, it was orginally dubbed "Galaxy Boy". The concept and story grew until it was redesigned to it's current form.

This project is still in early development and everything listed below is subject to change.
1.1 CONCEPT
An alien “Ceresian” by the name of Orbit lives on a small back-water terraforming colony on the fairly remote desert planet of Eridu. He runs a small-time repair shop with his droid companion Spanner, and his childhood friend Lille Marte. One day, out of nowhere, the colony is attacked and left in ruin. Orbit and company barely escape through use of a small ship designed for smuggling. Several years later Orbit and his friends have developed a reputation as skilled mercs/smugglers, while pulling a job on an outer rim world, illegally gathering relics from a long dead civilization, the “Protokin”, the same forces that destroyed the colony on Eridu show up and begin ransacking the ruins and colonies on the planet surface. Desperate for revenge on the only home he ever knew, Orbit attempts to foil the assault, but fails. Spanner is destroyed and Lille is captured, but not before Orbit learns the identity of the group’s leader. In a desperate mission to save Lille, Orbit sets out on a life-changing adventure, and is befriended by a floating robot designated Z1R0. From this point on the game, players will follow Orbit and Ziro as they seek out to stop this invading army, and at the same time possibly uncover a darker conspiracy.

1.2 FEATURE SET
Large (11+ melee) weapon selection and variety to collect and use at will. The player can collect gadgets and weapon schematics that the characters “glove” can then DIGISTRUCT into physical form, through the principle of solid light. Glove can also allow the player to grapple certain objects to either move them, or swing themselves. Player will find a gadget early on which gives them the ability to make the character lighter in order to solve puzzles or access hard-to-reach areas. Player’s robot companion will double as jetpack allowing boosted jumps/ potential gliding/hovering?

1.3 GENRE
3rd person Action / Adventure-Platformer / Puzzle Game

1.4 TARGET AUDIENCE
Teens to Young Adults, English speaking (unless we can find an efficient way to localize), and Non-Gender Specific but will most likely attract predominately males.

1.6 LOOK AND FEEL
The goal is to create a futuristic science fiction setting across all the worlds, the desire is to keep the art-style bright and colorful, almost “toony” (A cross-breed of 2D and 3D elements) in an effort to appeal to younger gamers. We hope to appeal to the older gamers with art as well, but also through hidden humor and references to their childhoods. The overall goal should be to create a game that will be enjoyable by as large an audience as possible.

1.7 PROJECT SCOPE
A summary of the scope of the game.
1.7.1 NUMBER OF LOCATIONS
8 Planets/ some with multiple locations, some may be visited more than once, for a re-use value.

1.7.2 NUMBER OF LEVELS
This could be considered the total number of times worlds are visited, if we account for each world being visited at least twice, and then we have a current estimation of 16 levels.

1.7.5 NUMBER OF GADGETS
Gravity Glove – Allows player to make themselves lighter/ (heavier) to allow access to areas they cannot normally reach and to solve puzzles.
Jetpack – Not really a gadget as much as a core mechanic, Ziro doubles as a jetpack to allow assisted jumps and short-term hovering.
Kintactor – A device which allows player to move objects in a kinetic fashion.
Hardlight Glove – Acts as storage and constructs and deconstructs weapons and gadgets. Also creates a blade for melee. A beam emitted from it can be used to grapple onto certain surfaces.

And we look forward to completing it! :D We are having a meeting this weekend to lock down more details, and hopefully afterwards will have some concept art to start throwing around.

This seems like it'd be very similar to Ratchet & Clank. However, that is not a bad thing. This would be so nice to see lifted off the ground. There's not many great adventure games coming out anymore and the entire idea of this has massive potential. I would love to hear more about it!

Thank you, that is certainly the goal here. The origin story has already evolved to be different than what is seen above, but we still want to keep that "buddy" feeling. And of course the big task will be coding all of those features to work properly haha.

Like the idea of the "buddy" relationship betwean the characters and the feature list presents a world of possibilitys for the puzzle elements, nice :)
