King Voxel vs 3D Dot Game Heroes!
Release date: February 2014
King Voxel is an exciting new action adventure game that is deep into development. It was inspired by the best action adventure games of the past like “Adventure” on the Atari 2600, and “The Legend of Zelda” on the NES. The key innovations of this game are the unique cell shaded voxel graphics and random quest generation allowing for essentially infinite replay value! The focus of this game is on gameplay. Combat and exploration are the key components of this game.

The final game will have all the following features:

-accessible gameplay that focuses on combat and treasure hunting
-unique cell shaded voxel graphics
-iconic retro styled items and characters
-world generator allowing for as many unique quests as you wish
-professional music quality
-3rd person and 1st person camera controls

This isn't a Zelda ripoff - it's a love letter to Zelda. :)

I couldn't imagine myself getting into legal trouble here. Look at Neutopia and 3D Dot Game Heroes. Those games are just as close to Zelda as King Voxel is.

this looks like it could be fun, but i guess i fail to so how there isn't any sort of copyright enfringement here. sure the legend of zelda is almost 30 years old, but there are aspects that resemble it significantly to the point where it kind of seems wrong in a sense.

This game cries out for a large number of achievements, persistent stat tracking, cloud saves, etc.

I'm in position 51 in the Greenlight queue! A few more yes votes and King Voxel could be greenlit in the next round! If you're reading this here is your chance to make a difference by telling your friends how close the game is and getting them to help nudge it over the finish line!

For the time being I only plan to release this on Steam. If there is a lot of interest I will consider releasing it with other distributors as well, but haven't thought through all the details you asked about.

I am going through a list of Greenlight items that I have upvoted based on a decision made by Steam to reject a refund request on a defective purchase. At this point I am removing my upvotes until I get some answers to some questions:
- Will it be available for purchase through other sites?
- Will people purchasing through other sites get a Steam key?

Whether I purchase it at all will be dependent on whether it will be available for purchase through other digital distributors. Whether I will upvote this or not will be dependent on whether purchases from other sites will require Steam activation or if we will be provided with Steam keys from those purchases once it passes Greenlight. I don't have a problem with Steam activation if it's a must, but I won't purchase new games directly from them anymore.
