Description
OBO, pronounced "oboe" (yes, like the instrument), it stands for "Overall Balance Overhaul."

This is a script that rebalances the Combat Shotgun / SPAS-12. In vanilla, the two semi-auto shotguns were almost clones of each other, which just screams for me to give them each a niche. Also, inside the gun shop on the first L4D2 campaign, the SPAS's sign says "One tight spread!", so what more inspiration could a balance-nut like myself need?

So put simply, the SPAS will now have a noticeably (but not ridiculously) tighter spread than the Autoshotgun, which is both an advantage and a drawback, since a wider spread makes hitting many Commons at close range easier. It also has a slightly higher damage per shot now. To compensate for the tight spread and resulting increase in DPS at range, I've reduced its capacity from 10 to 9, to help prevent over-killage of Bosses and Specials, while giving it a unique feel as opposed to its sister weapon. In addition, the weapon will only fire 8 pellets per shot, but those pellets will be able to three-shot Commons on Expert. This means the Autoshotgun is a better choice for crowd control, particularly in chaotic, short-range, all-around rushes while the SPAS is better-suited to killing Specials or lined up, slightly more distant Commons.

The result is a weapon that functions like the Autoshotgun, but with its own identity. There are also many smaller changes, all listed below.

Disclaimer about the preview screenshot(s):
I got them randomly off the internet. I claim nothing. If need be, I'll replace them with something generic from Wikipedia or something.

@ShadowX & Falerin:
Oh wow. How did I miss that? My apologies for that. I have no excuse. It has been fixed on both mods as of now, and I even credited you in the update notes. Thanks for letting me know. :)

In the description for both the M1014 script and this SPAS-12 script, you said:
"Also, both Semi-auto Shotguns now have 150 reserve ammo, since I switched their ammo types to the Hunting Rifle's."

You then changed their ammo back, as stated in the below conversation about Witches:
"EDIT: I switched the ammo types back to the default ones, because my Gamemode gives them more ammo instead."

@ShadowX & Falerin:
Wait, I'm confused. What confusion do you mean? Is there something incorrect in my description?
Anduron_Lazul Jun 13, 2018 @ 7:30am
I was quite confused by the normal ammo capacity for the SPAS and M1014, so I came back here. Noticed in the comments below you switched the ammo type back to their own instead of the Hunting Rifle.

I politely request that you edit the description of the two mods to reflect this, in order to avoid further user confusion.

Yeah, I know what you mean. A nice round 8 looks better for you, am I right? xD Still, with all my scripts installed, every single shotgun has a different magazine size and I prefer that over a rounder number.

but its still a great mod.

prefrence because i think of a spas being an 8 round shotgun not a 9 round shotgun.

Sneak peek behind the scenes. Originally I had it set to 8 rounds, because that's the long-tubed SPAS-12's actual capacity. But you can fit a ninth shell in if it's in the chamber, so I rather went with that. Is it just visual preference, or gameplay issues that makes you want it reduced?

no offense i like the idea but i think 8 round mag would be better.
