Antharion Breaks Into Top 100!
New Antharion Video
Release date: Summer 2015
Antharion is an old-school turn-based RPG made in the spirit of games like Wizardry, Ultima and Pool of Radiance. What sets Antharion apart from the pack is how faithfully it recreates the classic RPG experience. By combining an immense open world, deep tactical turn-based combat and a rich character creation system with the distinctive look and feel of a traditional Western RPG, Antharion hopes to bring old-school dungeon crawling into a new era.

  • Turn-based tactical combat
  • Immense open-ended world
  • Create and customize a party of 4
  • Dynamic lighting and shadows
  • No monster or loot scaling
  • Full day/night and weather cycles
  • 3 Magic School featuring 45+ unique spells
  • Smart NPC and monster AI

Antharion's world isn't just huge's massive! Over 100 dungeons, 20+ cities, 50+ unique monster types, this thing is enormous! It's important to us that everything in the game feels unique - you should never say to yourself, "Where have I seen that monster before?" or, "Wow, those NPCs looks really familiar." As you can see from the video, Antharion is crammed with tons of unique environments and we'll keep adding even more until it's finished. It's important to us that Antharion feels alive. NPCs don't just mindlessly sit there all day waiting like cardboard cutouts for you to enter their shops, they have lives of their own: going to their jobs during the day and then home at night. Steal in front of someone and you may be in for a fight, or they may just flee to find the nearest guard depending on their individual temperament. Get reported for committing a crime and you'll have a bounty on your head - if a guard spots you he'll throw you in the nearest prison (probably taking a bit of your coin for himself).

Alpha should go out to KS backers end of march 2015. It looks like it is a mature alpha meaning that it's halfway into beta. So actual beta might be some 3 months later (estimating how slow development was up until now). From Greenlight to Early Access could be as far as 4 months from now and "Release" more like end of 2015, considering that many EA games stay that way for a pretty long time, some even years (plural). But those are other games and can't really be taken to judge a new dev team. So who knows? It might be "released" as soon as the day right after alpha (1 of april) but I wouldn't believe it even if I'd see it.

Alpha, Beta and release should be in the coming quarter or first third of the year according to the latest KS update.

@ developers,
Was too late to be a crowd funder for this. Any news of release date? on steam? even as an Alpha?

In early versions of this (a year ago etc), the cartoonish graphics looked awesome (like the 1st/3rd screenshots here). They were truly some of the best I had ever seen in terms of bringing nostalghia of oldschool goodness and I was waiting for this game to come out like crazy.

However, from what I've seen in some recent videos and blog posts, the new graphic approach that also brings better resolutions, made the design and character animations look very very poor compared to the old version. Furthermore the new grid is very ugly as it looks in the first video. I truly hope the final version of this, will have the better cartoonish graphics many of us have been waiting for, and not the truly mediocre result that has suddenly appeared in these late videos... It will determine severely how it will be received by rpg fans. I just personally don't get why one would toss away something that was so beautiful no matter the pixelated old-school look, when it was already done so great.

I was really looking for this game, I didn't quoted the KS, I mean too late. But it's definitely a RPG that I could like a lot, so I wait the release, and thank for the Mac release. :-)
