Palace and Throne Room

Implements the Civ I palace and the Civ II throne room.

For anyone who didn't play those games (or doesn't remember back that far): the palace and throne room were screens that started out very plain, which the user could upgrade parts of when they were doing well in the game - if your people liked how things were going, you'd get to choose an upgrade. This was a much-loved feature for many Civ veterans, so I've ported it (both the Civ I palace and the Civ II throne room) to Civ V. It doesn't affect the game rules in any way - it's just an optional extra thing that you can build up and get a nice visual indicator of your royal palace.

The screen is available via the Palace and Throne Room option in the dropdown in the upper right corner.

If you have at least version 9 of whoward69's UI Notification Options mod, you'll also get a nice custom notification icon instead of the generic one, and clicking it will take you straight to the Palace and Throne Room screen. It's not available on Steam, so if you want that extra little bit of functionality you'll have to download his mod and stick it in your MODS directory. It's available here:

This has been tested with Brave New World and confirmed to work with Info Addict, In-Game Editor, and UI - Notification Options. I haven't tested the latest build with G+K only, or with Vanilla, but since there's no dependencies on any BNW content, it's worth a shot if you're in that boat. There shouldn't really be any conflicts with other mods, but let me know if you find something it doesn't play nice with.

If you like it, please upvote or favorite it and leave a comment!

CivFanatics thread:

If you're having trouble getting this to work, please disable all other mods and try again. If it works, then re-enable the mods one by one to find out which one it's not working with, and then leave a comment!

- Added palace!
- Added flavor mechanic to Throne Room - most civs (non-BNW) have (optional) unique flags and stage 2 wall art
- Revamped UI to use two-tab layout
- New notification icon
- Optional, automatic integration with whoward69's UI Notification Options mod for clickable notification icon
- Changed upgrade and notification sounds
- MAJOR thanks to Nutty for some excellent custom graphics work, and TheManFromMars for the awesome new icon!

[BETA 2]
- Fixed the top icon - now matches the civ icon.
- Fixed an issue where the internal state was getting messed up.
- Escape/enter now closes the window, consistent with other popups.
- Changed upgrade sound.
- Added upgrade notification sound.
- Changed when upgrades are given (smaller chance when you get a new policy, greater chance with golden ages/wonders/new eras).

[BETA 1] This is the first version, so it still has a few issues, but it's ready for playtesting and feedback.

It doesn't appear in the mod list at all for me. Why is this? I have subscribed.

Looks great. Can you add an option to customise the Civ III palace instead?

Two issue with the mod:
1. There is a long delay between clicking on slot to upgrade and upgrade finishing (with Ding sound effect).
2. Oftentimes, I got 2 upgrade points per event, which led me to full completion of palace and throne room with 10 spare upgrades left by the end of the game.

The cultural backgrounds were not available for me, playing Korea. It just jused the generic ones.
