Story
Play as Katherine Langley and explore the crevices of her mind represented by a Dollhouse. Collect recordings and discover the truth behind her sins, as your own conscience is trying to stop you from remembering.

What is Dollhouse
With Dollhouse we wanted to analyze the perspective of self-driven storytelling in videogames which ultimately became the thesis for our school project. We’ve always wanted to explore how different people interpret a story base of pieces of a larger story they found, but with the pieces out of order. This essentially creates a narrative which can be everlasting.

In essence our goal with Dollhouse is to create an interactive experience for players to interpret their own story of Katherine.

The information below is a description of our game.
An innovative horror game where it's a war between your beliefs, thoughts, and the truth. You have the ability to see through your pursuer's eyes, but at the cost at it knowing your last known position. This creates a terrifying game of cat and mouse.

Story
Play as Katherine Langley and explore the crevices of her mind represented by a Dollhouse. Collect recordings and discover the truth behind her past. as your conscience is trying to stop you from remembering. Since each time the environment is randomized, the player can choose to recollect certain memories to formulate an interpretation of the story. There is no clear cut answer to the story, only different sides of it.

Gameplay
Your conscience is trying to hunt you down; it wants you to find out "the proposed truth". Your conscience is represented with an indivisible entity that stalks you around the map. As the conscience gets closer sounds get quieter. There is nothing more frightening to realize that you are being chased, and to realize your conscience in front of you.

You can actually see through the eyes of your conscience, but once you do, it realizes your last known location, for as long as you are looking through its eyes. This is essentially terrifying because you both know where each oher are at all times, but you both can't escape from it.

Katherine Langley is suffering from hypopituitarism, and dementia. Now lying in a death bed her life is filled with sins she is now trying to recollect. However her own conscience won’t allow her to remember the monster she truly is. It becomes a deadly game of cat and mouse inside her own head.

Recollect memories of past events; all while avoiding your own conscience from catching you. Find your way through the mind of your own constructed maze, it would be wise to create landmarks as you navigate the twisted depths of Langley’s mind...

Classic Scares with a twist
Another mechanic we have is what we call "guilt trips" at points of the game when a player does not find any recordings for a period of time, visions will pop out to scare the player, but to also indicate that the player is near a recording.

RMG (Random Map Generator)
A mechanic which randomizes everything in the game, to ensure no 2 experiences will ever be the same. Room locations, hallway sections, layouts, objectives, environment spawns, event triggers and more are all dynamically and randomly generated for both single player and multiplayer modes. This is another layer of fear and suspense since you will never know what is lurking around the corner. The map essentially becomes a maze you cannot escape from.

Multiplayer
Our multiplayer modes is simply 2 v 2 where one team which plays as Katherine in her 2 states of mind, one driven by beliefs, and another driven by thoughts. They Both need to recollect their memories scattered throughout a randomly generated map. Despite being on the same team, both players are competing to become the more dominant state of mind.

The other Team will play as your conscience; their objective is to stop the other team from reaching the 13 recordings. All the mechanics carry over from the single player affair, your conscience is an invisible stalker that knows where the other players are located whenever they use their ability to see through the its eyes. The other layer of twist is that the conscience can deny recordings as well by destroying them, or using them as bait...
