Listen, if it's your first time to the series and you're considering The Sims 3 over The Sims 4, just get The Sims 3. The DLC is drastically cheaper on sales and the things contained in said DLC are worth more of your time than whatever TS4 has. Even if you aren't starting this series with a DLC bundled, you're bound to spend more time playing the vanilla version of The Sims 3 than The Sims 4.
