bought on sale and was value for money - simple choice-driven first person VN written to tug at your heartstrings, released in 2021 (a product of its time) - DLC replaces some of the pictures and extends one of the scenes in the expected direction

pros: engaging artwork dialogue voice acting & story-line, well designed with history and manual saves, can play as male or female MC

cons (for some): relationship interest is an impossibly cute slightly clumsy waifu, gentle post-hippy vibe which may jar with Ayn Rand fans, random consequences to some of the dialogue choices

if you're looking for a C21st equivalent to Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" or James Joyce's "Ulysses" then this isn't for you -- otherwise, a pleasant way to pass the time and leave you feeling better about the world

my first Sonic game - excellent!

A well crafted tale, with some unexpected twists and turns. The writing and artwork are fine, though the two main characters look very wholesome considering one is a prisoner condemned to a fate worse than death, and the other a troubled vampire. The music was effective but the two individual songs were surprisingly low key given that the game has "Ballads" in the title. There are Save and Load options from any point in the game. All in all, it's excellent quality for a freebie!

my favourite game!

short and bitter-sweet

The story looks promising and the graphics are well done. There's a lot of trial and error exploration (no map). I came across a few minor glitches in the game-play and it crashed once during my first session. However continuing into the game the crashes became more regular and because there is no Quick-save (only an Auto-save at the end of each 'Act') it was impossible to proceed. (Perhaps the release I played was particularly buggy?) If/when a Quick-save is introduced I'll give the game another try. Otherwise I'll wait until the game is more stable.

Even better than expected!

A short point and click linear novel, mostly text conversation, gently exploring the values of home, family and community in a historical context of racial exploitation. Simple graphics, but cute.

An atmospheric visual novel with excellent graphics and a good soundtrack, which takes place in an open world AI dominated city of the future. The game takes place over the course of the first night for a new driver (the protagonist) working for Cloudpunk, a shady delivery company. In between the driving and delivering there are plenty of side stories to follow up with various quirky lego-like characters that are encountered, each with their own strange history. There is no combat and few puzzles, other than occasionally having to find a way to travel between different levels of the city when on foot. The choices to be made involve interesting moral issues, but don't seem to affect the main plot. My main criticism is that there is no manual save, which for me makes the game less re-playable.

Neo Cab is a visual novel consisting mainly of conversations between you (the cab driver) and your various passengers over the course of six nights whilst driving round a thinly disguised cyberpunk Los Angeles which is threatened by a monopolistic AI company. An excellent game with fascinating characters, and enough of a main plot to hold it all together. I couldn't find a 'skip dialogue' key, which took away much of the enjoyment of replaying the game either for achievements or to explore the multiple endings.
