For those who love music

Personally, I enjoy this game. I absolutely love video game soundtracks, however, this soundtrack is different.

Typically, video game soundtracks are something on the side. The music plays in the background or it may be a part of an event in the game. Let's use Skyrim and its soundtrack as an example representing most other games. The soundtrack to that game is my favorite soundtrack ever, but it isn't interactive. Songs play in certain areas and play for certain events (like battles).

Proteus is different. Everything around you is part of the sountrack you create simply by being around those objects. Everytime you play, the soundtrack changes. You won't experience the same soundscape twice. That's something I enjoy. The music is very relaxing and there aren't really any objectives. I think that's a good thing. With games like Minecraft (another game with a beautiful soundtrack) there aren't really any set objectives or goals. You're just there in the world and you can do whatever you'd like, but the soundtrack is just an added part of the game. It isn't integral to the game. With Proteus, the sounds are everything. It's basically the point of it all.

Nothing is perfect, so I do have a problem with this game. There are options to play older versions of this game, which is fantastic. The problem I have is that there aren't many options to choose from. There are the versions after the full 1.0 release, and a beta... just one. I wish there were more beta versions that I could play. There is a particular version that I wish to play (the February 2012 version) because I prefer certain cound effects in that version over the ones in the newer versions. I came to know about this game through that version and that's the Proteus I fell in love with.

Overall, I enjoy this game. Some might not call it a game, but I certainly do. It's definitely not for everyone, though. If you like relaxing games or ambient music, then this game is a good choice.
