Early Access Review
Incredible building system, great graphics/visuals, interesting story... Enshrouded has jumped up on my list of best survival games, and I hope it only continues to get better throughout early access !

Engaging, challenging, and a ton of fun. The devs are some of the best in the industry: fulling engaging with the community and keeping the game relevant with updates and expansions.

Incredible ship customization, but overpriced and boring.

Devs are very aggressive towards the community and spew a lot of toxicity.

If you're a fan of the Left for Dead Series, you will surely enjoy the Vermintide series.
Very similar gameplay, albeit with a more modern feel. Between the incredible visuals, immersive combat, and fleshed out characters, you'll be hard-pressed to find something better.
My favorite feature is how customizable the characters are. There are 3 sub-classes per character, each having their own talent trees, abilities, and appearances.
Only thing lacking imo is the story, but there's so much re-playability that it doesn't really impact you.

It's alright I guess. I don't play it much. /s

In all seriousness, Terraria overall is a fantastic game. Can be anywhere from very easy to extremely challenging. ~450 hours and there's STILL things I haven't tried out! There's always something new and fun to do.

And if you want to spice things up, I recommend trying out some mods.

Early Access Review
(TLDR at the bottom)

Let me start off by saying, I had to think long and hard before recommending this game. Valnir Rok shows great potential, but if the development team doesn't act on it... it's gonna flop.

Starting with the bad, this game as it stands is a bit rough with performance issues ranging from memory leakage after ~40 minutes of play-time and high ping servers to game mechanics like stealing directly in-front of NPC's with no consequences and glitchy wildlife/enemies. There's honestly more I can add to this like an irksome GUI, dying from fall damage after dismounting your horse, 80% of perks/abilities not being available, some of the worst quest text I've ever read in my life... There's also a very small player-base. Servers are quite empty, the whole point of this game is to build a large clan and it's quite impossible.

Now, with all that said I still think it's a fun enough game. As I said in the beginning, it does show great promise. If these issues are tackled head-on, this could be a very fun and enjoyable experience. The combat is engaging but it can be improved upon. Same goes for building, there's annoying limitations and some things don't exactly click right. But the framework is there for a more in-depth customization system. Unfortunately it seems that the development team is slow to release content and patches. So I wouldn't recommend purchasing this game at the moment. Keep an eye on it, follow it's progress. Maybe after a major update and the serious issues have been addressed consider buying it. Definitely on sale. I purchased it as part of a 10 game bundle for a total of $4, so I didn't have much to lose.

I'll consider updating this review after a major update or the official release.

(TLDR: Lots of performance issues, glitches, & weird game mechanics. Some fun was had. Don't buy atm, but keep an eye on it.)

Early Access Review
This game is abandoned. First by the original developers, and it feels that way with the new team. Early Access since 2015, shameful. New content in recent patches? Ha. And what's in-game gets stale pretty quick.
Not to mention that this game is horribly optimized, even with a high-end graphics card it runs poorly on low settings.
Disappointing, R.I.P. my ~18 hours.

Early Access Review
Update: Game abandoned and super unpolished. Avoid at all costs.
[I'll update this review as the game gets closer to release and again after release.]

LiF:YO is a sandbox survival game set in a realistic open world with RPG medieval-like gameplay..
Now, as of this review, the game is in early access (alpha, not even beta). So anyone who is interested in purchasing/playing/reviewing this must realize there are (and will continue to be) some glitches and exploits. It's all part of the development of this game, read the Early Access note. But the game in its current state surprisingly has a lot of content, more than many other Early Access games out now. On to the review:

LiF:YO is not for everyone (casuals be wary). If you're expecting a game like Minecraft where you can build a house in 5-10 minutes of spawning ingame, you've got the wrong idea. Just to build the simplest wooden house could take hours depending on the world settings. That's why this game is best played with a group of people, and when you do it's very fun. Most building projects take a vast amount of resources, so when you tackle them with a group of friends it's much more easier to accomplish. Building a town with some people can be a very fun goal to aim for. That doesn't mean this game is impossible in singleplayer, the rate of progress will just be slower.

The PVP in this game is cool, but it could use some work. There's a TON of different weapons that are available to craft: various bows & crossbows, throwing weapons, polearms, lances, one handed & two handed weapons.. Each offer a unique fighting style. And even tools can be used as weapons (though not as effective obviously). I've had some problems with hit box detection, but I guess that's to be expected. The formation system looks very promising, especially in large battles of 8v8 16v16 32v32..

The terraforming can be a bit of a hassle, but again with the other aspects of this game when done with a group can be done rather quickly. All the ground and trees can be modified. In Observe mode you have the option to see the exact height of neighboring tiles, so no mistakes are made in building. The mining is still a bit glitchy when digging tunnels, that's probably the area where the game is most lacking. But I'm sure the devs realize this, they're active on their forums and Steam.

As far as the graphics go, the game is pretty nice. There are some texture issues here and there, but once again the game is in early access. The game isn't fully optimized, so FPS may not be ideal. Lowering the settings has generally fixed it for myself and most people I've come across on the forums and ingame.

So is the game worth the $40 price tag? For me, it most definitely is. But this game doesn't cater to everyone. You may have to invest possibly hundreds of hours into this game. It's definitely a challenge, but a very rewarding one at that. Updates are about every two weeks, so development is at a good rate. Which is why I support this game and am excited to see what Life is Feudal will become.
