I've waited a freakin quarter of a century for this game! I love it so far, it has some minor flaws, but I hope the devs will patch those soon.

First off, ER is most likely the best game ever made.

However, the performance issues are most likely the worst I've ever seen.

I managed to beat the first "important" boss after way too many hours of tweaking the settings and dying way too many times because of stuttering/frame drops.

The area that comes after it is basically unplayable, it resembles an Elden Ring Powerpoint presentation more than an actual game. Now the enemies are tougher, I need quick reactions and perfect timing, which just isn't doable. I already lost way to many souls/runes by dying twice because of bad performance so I'm underleveled too.

And that's on a system running Ryzen 5 2600/2070 Super, playing on 1080p Medium, after trying every "fix" imaginable!

Releasing such a broken product is not only disrespectful to the customer, but especially to the masterpiece ER is or could be.

If From fixes the performance issues, I'll change my recommendation, until then it's a no from me. Sadly.

really liking it so far. used to "play" the f2p version which was terrible. without the f2p mechanics, the game is a lot of fun, a streamlined, combat-focussed TBS in the JA universe. what's not to like? devs are still fixing some server issues though.

there are two ways of looking at this game. if you expect a carbon copy of JA2 1.13, you will be disappointed. if you look at it as a indie interpretation of a JA prequel, you'll love it. the combat is spot on, the atmosphere works, the art design is pleasing, the sound and music are well done. it contains all the core elements and mechanics of JA and more. it's a simplified, "light" and highly moddable version of JA2, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. on the contrary, it's more likely to appeal to an audience that aren't hard core JA2 fanatics, which can help reviving the franchise.

is it fun to play? you bet.
is it a JA game? oh yeah.
is it better than "back in action" and "JA online"? a thousand times.
is it a JA2 clone? nope. but as close as an indie team with a limited budget can get.

in the following days/weeks there are minor fixes to be expected, as well as contributions from the modding community. but it's already now highly recommended. i waited 15 years for a good JA game, and finally it's here. love it.
