Balrog (pronounced ball-bag) is a type of monster from JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. The design of the monster is modelled after Tolkien’s own distinctive scrotum (hence the name balrog).
The Balrogs were once normal spirits of Middle Earth, that were seduced by the Dark Lord Melkor, who offered them evil powers and cookies in order to terrorise the lands. Together with Voldemort, Lex Luthor, and that big one out of Transformers, they founded the Baddie Union, who have their Annual General Meeting in Switzerland every May.
