I really want to like this game I just can't enjoy it with the controls being this sluggish. I lost interest after the first three levels due to frustrating deaths and the clunky execution of the swinging mechanic. It's exhilarating to go fast in this game but it's too easy to lose control of yourself and mistime/misplace jumps. I must say though I dig the look of this game. It's charming and colorful and the levels are intricately designed with small branching pathways to keep it interesting. It just sucks that the game feel is so loose. Ah well.

I'd suggest trying out the demo for this one first before you decide to grab it or not.

It doesn't happen often where I fall in love with a game so much that I 100% it within the first two weeks of playing it.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair draws a lot of influence from iconic 2D platformers like Donkey Kong Country, New Super Mario Bros and Rayman Origins while bringing plenty of new ideas to the table, making it stand on its own alongside them.

This game hooked me with it's beautiful 2.5D visuals, funky music, tight controls, and satisfying level design. I loved exploring the overworld to find secrets and unlock more levels. There is always something hidden in every nook and cranny in this game (in both the levels and overworld) making exploration extremely rewarding. I was constantly unlocking new ways to customize my gameplay experience through collecting "tonics" that are hidden all over the overworld. A good chunk of the "tonics" are strange video filters that I never used but a good handful were really fun to play around with to increase/decrease the difficulty of levels, raising or lowering the currency count at the end of a stage respectively. After completing each stage you free little bee characters that give you an extra hit point in "the impossible lair" which you're thrown into at the very beginning of the game. I loved how I was always unlocking something new through each session which kept bringing me back hungry for more.

I had an absolute blast playing this game. If you enjoy 2D platforming games I highly recommend you give this one a go.

A very monotonous experience. The gameplay doesn't offer anything interesting or engaging, making it feel like it's always on auto pilot. Considering this is a LEGO game we're talking about here that's not saying much. I'm personally a big fan of this series but I didn't even bother finishing it due to bored I got by the final level. TT Games tries to implement parkour and combat mechanics into their stagnant LEGO game formula here but it never offers any interesting platforming challenges or puzzles. Everything can be completed with a couple presses of a button with no skill required making the gameplay unengaging. Even though you have more combat abilities to play around with than in previous entries the combat still feels just as mindless as any other LEGO game. There's a good variety of stuff to find (Gold Bricks, Unlockable Characters, etc.) as you explore the variety of small environments in the game, but I had no motivation to collect anything since the majority of characters you find are uninteresting extras from the movie and with the gameplay being as bland as it is I couldn't find the motivation to go back in free play to find everything. Considering the source material this game had a lot of potential but it never capitalizes on it and ends up feeling like a half baked movie adaptation rather than a Ninjago videogame. (i.e. Spinjtizu functions as a glorified projectile attack that is used for very shallow puzzles and isn't fun to use in combat.) I didn't like the LEGO Ninjago Movie to begin with (I am more of a fan of the Masters of Spinjitzu TV show bc of nostalgia) so the story here is still as bad and is even worse due to how they try to awkwardly combine in game cutscenes with the movie. All of the in-game voice acting is cringe inducing and the humor is even worse. (No Zane I don't care that you're a robot who says "LOL" unironically... shut the hell up please.) The presentation is solid for the most part. I like how this game looks despite some of the set pieces looking a little stiff and me not being a big fan of the movie's aesthetic. There are some good ideas here scattered about but nothing amazing. This is essentially just another LEGO game with a Ninjago Movie flavor. If you're beginning to get tired of this formula like I am avoid this one and spend time playing something with more thought put into its design.

Yeah no. Wait for a sale to grab this one. Simply put this game is no where close to the pristine quality of BIT.TRIP Runner 2.

It's way too short, sporting a measly 3 worlds, with fresh new locations being swapped out for shameless padding. The lack of precision in the controls makes the experiece frustrating and inconsistent. The retro levels are the worst the series has seen so far with boring visuals and repetative gameplay.

Being a huge fan of the first two games, I'm sad to say it's not worth it's $30 price tag.

Sonic forces is a linear, slippery, and sluggish re-imagining of Sonic Generations with an expansive story and visuals to levels this franchise has never seen before.

It's all show, but zero substance.

If you expected intricate level design and tight controls, you won't find that here.

Sonic forces is a marvel to watch, but a pain in the behind to play.

The end.
