If you like retro stealth games, you will positively love Filcher. The game lacks the feature to save in the middle of a mission, but the missions themselves are just the right size that failing is still punishing while not feeling like a monumental setback. Great game.

Anyone who can say, with a straight face, that this game comes anywhere close to something like Deus Ex should be committed to a psych ward.

I can't give this a thumbs down. Not only is it free, not only was a huge amount of effort put into this in spite of its short size, but it was apparently for a school project, to boot? Insane.

That said, there are some pretty poorly designed aspects of this game that i think should be addressed. The "blink-between-guards" mechanic is just bad. It's too easy to get caught when using this because the guard has either already moved by the time you blink below him, or because you were out of the blink's already finicky range.

The ending gameplay section also involves the player making a mad dash escaping some guards in their defenseless Jean form to reach the final painting. There is never any indication prior that you can escape from guards because the second you're seen you're instantly apprehended due to how close they'll typically be to you, and there's nothing (like unique dialogue from the guards or footsteps sounds) to indicate that this isn't a bug as they just randomly appear behind you in a mini-cinematic despite there being a locked door between any guard and Jean.

Still, a charming experience nonetheless.

I haven't touched this in four years and probably won't any time in the near future. I went through 24 minutes of this in 2015 and the only impact it made on me was this: it was so boring that I didn't even want to bother skipping for the explicit material. Which, might I add, is the only reason to get this, since it's just pornography that's been stripped down to be sold on steam. If you're not using the patch, you're doing it wrong.

Pros:
+Your shots will actually register
+Less cheaters
+Less 10 year olds
+Less tryhard highschool dropouts
+Less racist banter over the mic
+Less mic chatter in general
+No competitive rank e-peens for people to brag about
+The Deagle is useful, and not a $700 parlor trick
+No Canals
+No in-game skins, and as a result, no gambling
+You can spray a decal (for free!) without it being limited and absolute garbage
+Community DM servers aren't all FFA, so you can actually spawn
+Arctic Avengers playermodels
+No cringy Anarchist/FBI voice acting
+Corpse ragdolls don't lose all physical attributes when they hit the ground
+The option to attach a silencer to the M4 doesn't require castrating the weapon
+No ADS scope on the AUG/SG to use as an excuse to berate people for using said weapons
+Has a flashlight
+You can kill the hostages
+Weapon sounds are slightly less awful
+Valve doesn't care about this game, so they won't arbitrarily ♥♥♥♥ up the maps every 20 seconds

Cons:
-Quake sounds. Quake sounds everywhere
-FIRE IN THE HOLE FIRE IN THE HOLE FIRE IN THE HOLE FIRE IN THE HOLE FIRE IN THE HOLE
-The cheaters you do encounter probably won't get banned because that would require Valve to actually do something
-Only maps people will play are Dust2 and Office
-Glock is somehow even worse
-No sexy Basque accents
-Majority of the remaIning playerbase is comprised of middle-aged truck drivers
