Ys Origin is an action JRPG game from famous Ys Series, it's actually one of a game that really hard and challegne. In a nutshell your reflex and speed will be put into test. Ys Origin also considered to be the best of series. This is also only game where "Red Hair Swordman" isn't main character, but instead has more than one main characters with different point of view on one grand story flow. A Story in this game is a pre sequel to all those other Ys games and can be played at any order you feel like.

Gameplay is all about beating enemies solo and at the same time avoiding their attacks, you'll have to be quick and ready to evade every possible enemy attacks and ready to strike back anytime before their defense are up again, you'll have to exploring dungeon for items and equipment, leveling up your characters to strengthen their power, and at last an unforgiveable hard boss fight. It plays similarly of those famous torture action RPG game like Dark Souls, Demon Soul or whatever you can name of and feel like a real hardcore gamer. Luckily for those who're not good at this kind of game, there're very easy and easy mode for easy story experience and get used to it at acceptable pace.

Ys series has their own charm, an impressive scenery, catchy soundtrack and several difficult monster and boss battle, good arts and characters design. A plot of story however is not something mind blow as a game's mostly made for just gameplay experience. For this game, you start with selecting character you want to play and then listening to some prologue storyline before they throw you into exploring tower duty where you go in and solo every floors, including beating monsters and immerse boss creature. As you explore, you will encounter more and more events as they reveal a secrets and purposes of the tower, characters's own trauma pasts and their desires. There're cute and silly moments but non of them are obtrusive. The level design is quite simple like a platform game, you jump, walk, run, destroy just to find part and continue, combine the use of each skills given as you process through tower to further strengthen your movement ability to reach an even more platforms and grab some hidden items, avoid traps or enemy ambush etc.

Depend on your difficulty setting and your skill with a game, you may die a lot from just one boss battle trying to figure out the way to beat him by your own, there's FAQs about boss fight but even with those you will still have hard time fighting them first try. There's no healing in this game, if a boss can kill you in just 4 hits, then you can only take 4 hits of mistakes at most, no more. Boss's hell bullets, attack powers and patterns are also different depended on difficulty setting means that you can't completely refer Hard mode boss to Nightmare boss, they don't just increase their HP and stats, they also add even more harder to dodge movesets or special buff to those bosses, in short it's not some cheap spike in diffculty like other hardcore action game. Most bosses can also heal themselves overtime in which you have to interrupt them or all your hardwork mean nothing.

Ys is actually short game, 10 hours would be more than enough to complete each playthrough, however to actually complete main story of a game you need at least two playthrough and to complete all the achievements; it gonna drain a lot of your playtime. There's one big feature and only feature that can determine who's actually a skilled player, it's boss rush mode, in a nutshell you're put into series of boss battles from start to end without resting, this mode is also required for 100% complete achievement, it's a most fun and frustrating of all.

Since this game is all about difficult, it's hard to recommend to everyone but it's one hell hard of a game that some people who seek only some frustrating can enjoy for a meantime. Of course some moment of this game story is actually touchy too so even people who enjoy reading text can have some fun. This game can be played with both keyboard and controller. I had completed every achievements on this game with keyboard and mouse all alone so playing with those are perfectly fine, if you die in this game, it's all your fault because this game control is solid and every boss fights are possible to beat with no damage taken.
