Early Access Review
Ark, with worse devs, pirates instead of survivors and ported over dinos to a pirate game (seriously, the turtle is literally a shrunken carbonemys and the sheep is the same model of a ovis)

has a huge potential, just need to hire people with an IQ higher than a rock

Early Access Review
TL;DR: if you really want to play the game, stick to single player or unofficial servers, where you aren't held hostage of WildCard's terrible decisions.

The game itself is amazing, the problem starts, however, if you want to play online, specifically at Official servers...

I'd have recommended the game if it wasn't for the extremely terrible PR and Customer Service "provided" by WildCard, not even Brazilian phone companies are this bad, and they suck A LOT

Of course, the game was at Early Access, bugs are expected, and we expected them to be fixed, which they weren't, dinos fall through the map, you submit a ticket reporting it, they never get back to you and then, approaching release, when they needed good PR the most, they simply decided to wipe out every support ticket submitted by "Legacy" Servers (a.k.a. the servers prior release), without ever addressing most of them, and basically say "F**k You" to everyone who supported the game through Early Access.

Let alone that, they act like a "Fun Police", where fun isn't allowed, it takes you 11 real life days to raise a Mosasaurus, Tusoteuthis or Giganotosaurus, 11 real life days for a virtual pet, it takes 28 hours to make them feed from feeding troughs, alleviating some of the stress, and almost every dino in the game takes days of care to become adults.

Then you might say "well, tame them instead, takes less", sure, and they are extremely weak compared to bred dinos with good imprinting (oh, yeah, there's that as well, every 3 to 4h you need to give some attention to your virtual pet, so it gets imprinting bonus, which then makes them far stronger and far more resistant than, say, the wild parents of said bred dino, even if they have the exact same stats, the bred one will be much stronger)

Ok, so now, in order to have a really strong dino you need to either not work, or do it on free days, nice, then what's next?

Well, WildCard happens, they do several tons of nerfs, screw-ups, buffs to already extremely difficult bosses, rendering them near impossible even to alpha tribes, and WAY out of each for the smaller tribes. One of said nerfs was to the Therizinosaur, a dino meant for harvest which is very hard to tame, which, everyone agreed it was OP, but what was their solution for that? nerf it so it is either slightly better or worse than other dinos who aren't meant for harvest as the Theriz was (Theriz has a special ability which allows you to allocate special harvest points to two abilities, power harvesting or delicate harvesting, which buffs a specific resource group output, no other dino has that, and after the nerf, in practice, there was no difference between delicade and power anymore, a farming session would be, in practice, the same with the two). Another nerf was the so called flyer nerf, which they set the movement speed for flying dinos to be static, you can't increase or decrease, no matter what, not even imprinting helps there, and that made moving across the map an extremely boring task. A third nerf example was the fishing nerf, where they reduced the loot from fishing, and limited the size of fishes that can be catch, fishing would yield rare blueprints to craft saddles and other gear, and they nerfed it to the point that it became quite pointless to even bother.

But hey, they added a toilet, which is extremely useful and everybody was asking, right? let alone the Early Access paid DLC they set precedent for, which, btw, they relegated.

Another reason to avoid Official servers, is the fact that you need to abdicate from life, or allocate some time to do choirs, I mean, play Ark, because your dinos can starve to death, or, which I consider even worse, if you play PVE, they can be gone in 8 days if you don't log-in and visit these structures (be within render distance) to reset the timers. Same goes for structures, but they have different timers, with thatch and greenhouse/glass being 4 days, wood and adobe 8, stone 12, metal 16 and tek 20 days, the last 3 doesn't even make sense, because you build bases to secure your dinos, but what's the point of having 12, 16 or 20 days for the base to expire, when your dinos inside only last 8 days, and after this period they can either be claimed by someone else, or simply automatically disappear from the server if no one claims them shortly after the timer has expired.

And this is where the complaints about steam review system comes in place, because I do recommend this game if you avoid official servers, but WildCard and their PR and Customer Service forces me to check the "Not Recommended" button

Original Negative review, written in Aug 30th 2016:

Space Trucking in Elite is light years more fun than this

My only hope to save this wreck is if the community develop mods that add life and variety to the game, like Kerbal Space Program, because from the looks of it, they are going to charge for features that they stated would be in the base game...

with one huge difference to KSP... the stock KSP is far more fun than this

Review as of July 28th 2018:
So, I left the old review as a way for people to know how it felt back when it was launched, and what it is now with the NEXT update.

It's a whole different thing now, it actually feels like a proper game. No Man's Sky, after TWO YEARS, is finally enjoyable, to the point that what it has now makes me even more excited about what Elite can bring when they release what No Man's Sky has now (and is actually good, I'm surprised I'm praising this game after two years of "why did I waste money on this?")

Why am I citing Elite while praising No Man's Sky?
First, because NMS can finally compete with Elite
Second, because it is a Fortnite (No Man's Sky) vs. PUBG (Elite) scenario, you have the cartoony one that is arcadey and childish, and you have the serious, adult game, both offering the same thing, basically
Third, Frontier has plans to add to Elite the ability to walk around stations, ships, planets, explore atmospheric bodies, you know, what No Man's Sky already has, but again, this is a Fortnite vs. PUBG scenario, except Fortnite, this time, has features PUBG doesn't... yet...

Now, I only have one request for Hello Games.
It's been two years since you f***ed up royally. Yet, you didn't give up and, two years later, delivered the game you promised to be released back in 2016, the updates were cool, and actually improved the game, with NEXT being the savior of this game.

So please, DO NOT F*** UP... AGAIN, keep the good work instead.

they could have made a texture with a jaguar (the symbol of our army), the independence or death painting with an imperial flag ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_or_Death_(painting) ) or a 14-bis with Alberto Santos Dumont.... no, they freaking did a random soccer player...

despite the random soccer player, I do recommend this DLC, as the macaw and flag ones look cool

now only if SCS could make a second paint DLC or add these to ATS... (without the random soccer player)
