Significantly better than the original, which already slapped. Pretty difficult so go into it knowing you might get your butt kicked a bit. It's a little short but I feel like I got my money's worth for sure. Plus there's an endless mode if you want more. The whole thing is pretty much just the type of gameplay shown in the trailer with some twists here and there, so if the trailer looks fun then I'd recommend you give it a go.

Cute little indie rougelike! It's a little buggy and jank sometimes but never enough to actively ruin my enjoyment. And the demo's free! Give it a shot and if you like the demo I'd reccomend buying the game at full price, it's pretty replayable and I think I got my money's worth, plus there'll be new content updates in the future.

-everyone always mentions this, but it bears repeating, the art + vibes are adorable.
The character designs/dialogue is also really good too. They all have their own distinct personalities and I enjoyed just watching everyone do their thing. Loads of little touches help this,
I love how Shoxza does a lil dance on the main menu, and the part where you dance with the twins, and how lyllh calls you out on just wanting to snuggle, and...

-i REALLY like the forge system. Every item has a positive and negative effect, and 6 times per run you can forge an item to remove the negative effect and slightly buff the positive effect. Gives me a reason to plan long term for my runs, makes item economy more interesting, just a really cool system with loads of depth that adds a ton of replayability. great stuff!!

-the 'class' system where the first item you choose drastically affects the rest of the run is really clever. means you can never get too comfortable with the same setups since the first items are all so different, but they're all also really strong when paired with the right upgrades. forces you to think on your toes and experiment, great stuff!

-great pacing. Lots of areas to take breaks, switch up gameplay with platforming, etc.

-I really like how in the lategame the difficulty is increased by having new and interesting drum patterns as well as new enemies. keeps the actual rhythm parts of the rhythm game fresh!

it's so good. peak source jank gameplay, its like double action boogaloo meets heavily modded gmod sandbox but it's somehow also really well balanced.

doing lan parties of this game is genuinely some of the most fun ive had with any game on steam. cannot reccomend this game enough. get a group together and play it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's kind of janky but I'd reccomend it overall if you like hotline miami/top down shooters in general

Good:
-upgrades, especially the ones that synergize, are really cool and fun. automation (turn all thrown guns into turrets) and the one that turns kunai into throwing axes that can return to you are especially fun, but theres loads of different combos and I think this is really the most replayable part of the game.
-Guns are *chefs kiss* very nice
-Music is top notch
-Visuals/aesthetic are really good.
-The levels, especially the wide open ones, are just really godd4mn cool. I was surprised how fun the long range combat was in this game, considering how brutal it is in HLM 2. I guess it's probably because you don't die in one hit so if an enemy hits you from offscreen you can just take cover.

Bad:
-The bosses are kind of mediocre. Not bad by any means, but not really that interesting. They mostly use the same patterns as each other and because some attacks are way harder to dodge than others and bosses mostly just pick moves at random, plus the fact that some patterns are also based on rng, can lead to some pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ feeling deaths at the hands of the bosses.
-The art style is cool but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I can not see the acid puddles at all, more readability in general would be appreciated.
-Pacing slows to a halt if you get to low health in the middle of a floor. Game goes from bombastic shootouts with bullets, blood, and shrapnel flying all over the decrepit mansion to peeking around corners and abusing slowmo in order to not lose your run

The game is a bit jank/buggy at times, vaulting over tables never seems useful and corpse ragdolls sometimes spin around getting stuck on each other, and as someone who works in the same engine as the dev I bet he forgot to assign the lateralis logo noise an audiogroup because that sh!t is way too loud lol

Would reccomend if you like top down shooters and are willing to look past some jank.

Don't let the trailers fool you, this game plays a lot more like survival horror than a wave shooter. Combat is slow, tactical, strategic, and requires a lot of resource management. Using one too many trip mines, not checking your motion scanner, or leaving a door open by accident could cost you and your teammates a 40 minute game.
And you will need teammates - specifically, people you know and are able to voice chat with. This game requires a lot of good communication and its lobby browser doesn't work super well. If you can't assemble a squad of at least 2 players to play this, don't bother.
It has great atmosphere and art direction, reading terminal entries is interesting and exploring the facility never gets old, even if some of the rooms look the same. It also runs very well, at least on my computer. I haven't had really any crashes or bugs as well. Music is serviceable.
This game has a lot of content, a lot of depth, and a lot of replayability. I'd say it's well worth it at full price - if you can convince someone else to play it with you as well.

You get used to the aesthetic and controls after about an hour or two. The menus and ui make sense after about 5 minutes. You might have to go into the options and look at which buttons do what but it's really not that bad once you get the hang of it.

The worldbuilding and vibes are great but there isn't really a huge overarching plot? You kind of just murder people for different people who all have different reasons, and then the ending happens which I couldn't spoil even if I wanted to because I have no idea what is going on at that point. Dialogue is really funny and I love mission/item descriptions.

The gameplay is super unique and fun, the tactical gameplay is refreshing and I loved experimenting with different augments for each level although you'll pretty quickly discover that only about half the augments are ever useful. I think this was intentional though because the crappy augments are really cheap and easy to get in the early game.
This is definitely a game where you'll need to go look at a wiki or video guide occasionally, especially if you want the true ending. Civvie 11's video is a good start and it's also super entertaining.

The level design is also great, I loved exploring levels for secrets and alternate routes and finding new/clever ways to eliminate targets safely never gets old. As a rule of thumb - never go in the front door.

The weapons mostly all feel pretty similar, which isn't necessarily the worst thing because they also all feel great to use. I kind of wish there were maybe slightly more different enemy types although the ones in game are all pretty unique so I wouldn't say there's a lack of diversity among them.

I never really interacted with the stock market mechanics that much, you can look up guides on how to make a bunch of money off of it but they all require you to do really specific things in the early game. Fishing is also kind of meh, maybe I just have a short attention span though.

I really enjoyed this game, I can easily see why people would be turned off by it though. If you enjoy games like rainbow 6 (but not siege) or deus ex I reccomend giving it a try, just make sure you pay attention during the tutorial and actually play the first level instead of quitting during the tutorial and refunding it like the god of war lead designer did lol

dang this game slaps, this is one of the only games I went back and 100% completed. I have a perfect on every level and did every challenge, and I'm now trying to beat the developer's best run of all time in endless, all on the hardest difficulty.

The movement is without a doubt the best in any FPS game I have ever played, it is extremely skill based (there is no double jump) and incredibly rewarding to master. There are loads of tiny movement tricks you can do to go so much faster than you think, such as jumping instantly after sliding to maintain momentum, ground slamming into a bounce pad to get shot ridiculously high into the air, rocket jumping with the pump shot mod, etc.

Getting perfect runs of levels seems impossible at first, since it's really hard to keep your combos up + survive in early game, but once you get the hang of the movement and the game gives you all the guns you can fly through levels getting perfects without even trying. There were only one or two challenges in the entire game where I had to grind the same level a couple times to get the perfect rank, mostly bosses and that one level in lust where you have to speedrun the level in under a minute.

The game also has really good checkpoints, so if you're having trouble you can at least die with the knowledge that you won't have to do massive chunks of the level you've already mastered over and over again. Music is fantastic, visuals are not quite as good as other new blood games (DUSK + maximum action are both a bit prettier) but still good, level design is great, you rarely get lost but there's also room to explore and find secrets. (Except that one level in lust where you break the electric boxes, I got lost there for a bit on my first playthrough but not to the point of it being annoying)

Beware that this game is very difficult and often doesn't give any way to skip stuff ala the BFG/crucible in doom eternal. There is also currently no "easy" or "very easy" difficulties yet, but they will be added in the future. If you're new to shooters and are worried you might get stuck on a boss or something, maybe wait until easy/very easy difficulties are released and then re-consider buying the game.

Also if you're expecting this game to be a boomer shooter ala doom 2/dusk it's not. There is no ammo management and you can't just win fights by circle strafing, you have to dash and be extremely mobile and take advantage of verticality. Good aim is also much more important, enemies have specific spots like headshots and ammo pouches which when shot explode. The game is more similar to doom eternal or titanfall than it is to blood, doom 2, etc.

All in all I think ultrakill is a fantastic game and I would recommend it to anyone who loves balls-to-the-walls movement shooters.

A fantastic and very polished boomer shooter with good pacing, visuals, guns, enemies, you name it. Got a pretty long campaign too, definitely got my money's worth. Would easily recommend, even when not on sale.

MARANAX INFIRMUX!!

Arguably one of the best FPS campaigns of all time, everything from the movement to the guns to the levels is EXTREMELY well done (pun intended.)
Gives a ton of content for pretty cheap too, completing all the episodes takes upwards of 15 hours but with mods you can push that even higher.
It's even got multiplayer with steam servers that supports both co-op and deathmatch. It's great!

Only notable downside is that this game is REALLY hard compared to most FPS games, but you can just turn it down to easy if you're having too much trouble. Be warned - if you normally play on hard difficulty, stick to normal. If you normally play on normal difficulty, stick to easy. And if you normally play on easy, be prepared to die.

This game differs itself from the game it's clearly inspired by (Hotline Miami) by making the game much more tactically focused.
Many small changes such as the ability to shoot through doors, picking which weapons before starting a level, having to manually reload with the r key every time, and getting a medal for not dying a single time seem to emphasize the player into thinking more carefully instead of just rushing into combat suicidally.

This can somewhat backfire though, as this system of play encourages the player to exploit and cheese the game to avoid deaths. Whereas Hotline Miami punishes people who try to cheese the game by giving low point scores/grades, RHV rewards it, and as a result the best methods of attack are often the easiest and least creative. Line up all the enemies in a doorway and shoot them with SMGs since they stun lock, peek at enemies around corners with melee then ambush them one by one instead of pushing forward aggressively, pop out of cover every couple of seconds when you know you won't get hit, etc.

This is somewhat compounded by the fact that the weapons aren't really very well balanced, and you can easily stick with the best weapons as early as the third level. Dual uzis and a shotgun as your primary are pretty much objectively the best weapon combo, as they give you incredible crowd control and incredible single enemy stopping power both with more common ammo types. While Hotline Miami forced the player to constantly switch weapons due to the fact that you couldn't reload, this game lets you reload and supplies ammo 'a plenty, giving you basically no reason to ever switch weapons once you get the best two. Both this and the fact that you aren't given a lot of room for creative kills mean that the skill cap for this game is significantly lower than that of Hotline Miami.

However, this is somewhat negligible by the fact that the best weapon combo in this game and the best strategies for taking out enemies are both extremely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun. Both the dual uzis and primary shotgun have a real nice kick to them, and shred through enemies like paper. Other weapons are quite fun too, I'm a big fan of the dual double barrels since you can basically one shot anything with them if you fire both at the same time. Shame they take so long to reload, and have bad ammo pickup.

The game is still really fun overall though. There's something incredibly satisfying about shooting the enemies through doors and killing them before they know what hit them. And, of course, it's free, so I would totally recommend everyone to at least try it out!

Other than that, in game graphics look nice and are pretty stylish, cutscenes are kind of shoddy but in a charming 'so bad it's good' kind of way, the variety of locations is really good, sounds are all nice and satisfying, and there's a lot of extra content other than the main campaign if you find yourself itching for more.

Great little free game! If the devs make a sequel that costs money and improve on some of the complaints above it'll be an instant buy from me.
