It's feature complete and stable as of Aug 2014. Many people complain about the shift in game mechanics but that's just individual preferance. However, there's no way around a non-existant AI which overshadows all other aspects of the game.

Simply put, the AI, both in strategic battle and tactical, is not there; imagine a beautiful playground with no one but yourself.

I really enjoy the SOTS universe and all the spinoffs but unless you can find people in MP (almost impossible) I would recommend leaving this game be.

Edit: a recent Fan Patch posted in kerb's modding forum did much to rectify the AI's strategic weakness to a point where HARD AI will give you significant challenge. The tactical side is still a bit weak but the patch really helps to make SOTS 2 worth playing again.
