This is as BIG game, with a steep learning curve. I am a huge fan of 4X strategy games, and this Imperiums is one of the best I've played in the past 25 years. While it lacks the real-time battle field tactics of Total War games, the development and training of your military forces is all important; compared with TW gmes, all battles can be said to be auto-resolved. When ascending the learning curve I had several questions about certain game mechanics; I posted these questions on the forum and had the answers within minutes from the developers. With over 100 hours of game time, I still haven't learned all the nuances of the game,. The game is very dependent on resource management, and it takes a long time to discover new resources, build the proper infrastructure, and complete enough research to be able to implement the best government.

I highly recommend this game!

Early Access Review
A fun game that is challenging; rather steep learning curve makes it difficult to master without a lot of experience.

I enjoyed the original 20 years ago, and I enjoy the new edition even more. Even though I have only 54 hours playing AOE2-ED, I have played thousands of hours on AOE2 and AOE2-HD over the years.

This game is ageless! I first played it when it come out -- 20 years ago? -- and have played periodically since then, especially when they release new expansions and DLCs. I've got all the "age of ..." games, and like them all, but keep coming back to AOE2.

I like it! If it was bugged when first released, then it isn't bugged now. Playing on Windows 10 at the "Hard" difficulty level. I am a hard-core RTS player, and played AOE when it first came out way back when. Have played all the "Age of .." games and like them all. This AOE Definitive Edition is simple but is still a bit of a challenge at times at the "Hard" level, and it is fun!

[later review] OK, I have completed all the campaigns and have just over 170 hours of playing time. I still say that this game is way fun. I was a little naive about its "simplicity," however. Most of the campaign scenarios were completed at the "Hard" difficulty level, but I had to drop down to "Moderate" a couple of times 'cause I was getting my azz kicked by the AI that many of the negative reviewers have sneered at.

Many of the reviewers have commented that the campaigns in the AOE Definitive Edition are identical to the campaigns in the original; they are wrong. Most of the campaign scenarios have been tweaked, and many have been totally redone. One example: In the original "Spartacus" scenario in the "Enemies of Rome" campaign, you are playing as Rome against Spartacus & the slave army -- but in the Definitive Edition you play as Spartacus.

After 170 hours of playing time -- no freezes, no crashes, no noticeable bugs.

I like MKW very much; have played about 300 hours and still find it fun. The devs keep adding new features, and are quick to fix bugs that the early access community finds as part of our feedback.

I like this game, and have managed to master its nuances after a few catastrophies. The developer is very actively involved in fixing, updating, and expanding the game, so that every few days there are new challenges and a new learning curve.

I bought this game when it was in early release -- anyway, a few months ago. Played the campaign through and enjoyed it immensely. Fairly quick learning curve. Fun to play.
