I've tried writing this review a couple times now, waxed upon my initial thoughts about the game for paragraphs and followed them up with equal measures of praise and commendation for In Stars and Time. But screw that, this game demands a lot of time from you as a player, and i want you to give that time to the game instead of giving time to me reading this review. The rest of this review is going to be very direct for this reason.

I hate identity politics. I hate "woke" content. I hate how these elements commonly shoved into media without rhyme or reason just so quotas can be met and boxes can be ticked. I am iffy about RPGmaker games, I've been spurned more times with games of its ilk than I have enjoyed them. The groundhog day aspect of In Stars and Time was the only reason i made this purchase. I genuinely believed that when i played this game, I'd have to push through cheesy, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ characters and writing just so i could enjoy another time-loop plot.

I was incredibly wrong, and i couldn't be more happier for it.

In Stars and Time has some of the most beautiful, heartfelt writing I've seen in games in general, let alone RPGmaker games. Both the cast and the plot were the absolute highlights of this darling of a game. At times I shed ugly, sob-filled tears getting to know all these lovely buggers, and i was genuinely impressed with how well the LGBTQ elements were incorporated into the world building and the characters. It honestly was my favourite part of my experience whilst playing this.

The Groundhog-day elements are nothing to dismiss either. In stars and time marries its exceptional writing with its gameplay, and makes good on its threats of giving you a true Looping experience. It will demand you to see the world as the protagonist, and it isn't afraid of grinding you down as much as it does our poor Siffrin. In stars and time does not ask for your time, but demands it. You will have to give more and more for seemingly less and less in return. Thankfully, no matter how little it eventually gives, its still compelling enough to last you till the end of its run time. (Despite how that sounds, the ending is a glut of content so don't worry about that)

Go give In stars and time your money and your time, I doubt you'll regret it, no matter your initial thoughts.
