Ghosts

In the beginning, the game gives you a choice: travel up or down. In reality, there are three choices, as there is also a middle road, but it isn't mentioned. "Well" you think to yourself "Lets try down" and after facing the legions of ghosts that you can't hit, but can absolutely tear the shit out of you, after you beat them all, and keep in mind, every time you fail and die, they all respawn, but finally you kill them all. "HAHA, TAKE THAT YOU FUCKING GHOSTS!" you chuckle as you gloat over a shiny new enchanted ring you've found, the first real treasure you've earned.

And then you find out that you can't go any farther in the game, at all. Not in this direction. No explanations of this are given, you just run into a dead end, and that's the end of it. You head back and try the middle route, and again, after countless waves of near-impossible foes, it dead ends suddenly.

"Well fuck me up the goat ass", you exclaim, outloud, to your computer.

And that's Dark Souls.
