I do like this game. It's clever, well laid out, and compelling in it's storytelling.

The sims can feel oddly like they lack perosnality comapred to the sims 3, but overall there is much more to do and the open world feels much more inviting and has so much more to do. The texture/colour system for customisation is also probably the best feature and makes this game higher recommended than sims 2 or 4

And with the first expansion coming, and the promise of ore than jsut these three things with the season pass, I'm quite happy with my purchase. Definatly a money saver, and all of it looks to be things I'm interested in.

I was expecting this to be ok, nothing spec ial. Honestly I barely use the chrome skin and all. NBut I LOVE the radio station. It's become the only one I listen to in all honesty - and the others aren't bad. It's just really, really good.

So my original review is below but so much has changed in this game. It now has a tutorial, built in rover AI, sensible colonist travel distances... I can't begin to go into all the changes, including the domes can now be connected.
It's still just as strategic and I really do love it, but it's also so much more accessible. This developer can be trusted to keep working with the players even after they have your money and this game is a pretty darn safe bet.
It's interesting. Try it.

edit: I also fixed my spelling errors recently.

Original review:

I've had a lot of fun with this game. I've sunk 80 hours into it, and intend to sink more.

I've encountered a few bugs, one of which has already been resolved and I'm hoping this is a good sign for the future, but absolutely nothing that actually stops me playing.

The game itself has a lot of unexpected nuances, given it's apparently simple mechanics. Everything it has is simple to understand and use. But together and with the disaster mechanics and mystery mechanics, things become interesting. Nothing is straightforward and the variations available make for some very deep challenges or simple relaxed gameplay.
I have found that the priority system works fine for its purpose and most things are very self-sorting. With universities and drone production facilities my colonies run very smoothly. Without them things can pile up fast and suddenly cascade into disaster - which is, frankly, amazing. If you played 'banished' you know the kind of thing I'm talking about. It's not an issue with the game- it's part of the play. Never get too comfortable and keep an eye on things!

The randomised tech means that it genuinely is impossible;e to rely on just one way of doing things and one does need to be adaptable. Which is interesting.

Mods slot in very easily, which is fun, and a basic mod is not too difficult to do. I have mild brain damage and managed one - not even kidding.

I love this game and I'm looking forward to seeing what is in the content packs and expansions to come.

I would recommend it- but with a caveat. Look it up on youtube! There's so much gameplay out there. See if it's for you. It had a lot of gameplay before it came out and I watched a significant chunk of it deciding to pre-order. I got *EXACTLY* what I was expecting. You should do the same and decide. Do, however, skip over seeing mysteries resolved if you want to keep some surprises.

Tips for a better experience:

**THIS IS OUT OF DATE AS OF LAST PATCH* I'm aware a lot of people are struggling with drone reallocation - you can package them and unpackage them elsewhere which is really, really quick. Just need to ensure one has enough for a smooth running colony. That's a part of the gameplay and not a bad one, but the mechanism for reallocation gets missed by a fair few.

**There's now a 'reallocate all' kinda button which just grabs all the nearby ones and lets you shunt them off.

Do not attempt to micromanage the colony. Use the priority system, and make sure to get training facilities.

End the transport rover trading routes on a wire. It will change, then do drop off. Very helpful.

Domes can be customised and specialised - even the little ones. For serious and true. Tech helps achieve this. You also really need to make use of the filter system for preferred and disallowed colonists, as well as the priority systems on both domes and buildings. The automation in this game is powerful and pretty well made. But you do have to use all the tools it gives you to get it 'right'. Micromanagement doesn't work for this game - but you can't ignore the priority systems either.
They can live without gambling and alcohol though you won't get the happiest people. Those who have no addiction will find this easier - sanatorium domes are recommended (you'll need either 2 or 3) mid game.

I lvoe the visual style of this game. It's not smooth as is traditional but full of angles and brightness and it gives it a completely different feel.
I love the way the people twist what I say, it's quite amusing, even if once or twice they've decided to eat eachother ( ? NO! STOP! BAD!)
It certainly can use improvement but as it stands it's already a fun little game and puzzling out what to do about the continent war I inadvertantly started was a great deal of fun.

Very solid, intuitice coaster building controls. Simple other controls. Fair amount of interesting scenery.
My 4 year old just spent several hours 'riding' various rides abd insisting i leave crtsin ones on loop.
She shrieks at a well placed kraken.
5/5 stars. Cheaper than Disney land.

I am poor at writing reviews. I will say I enjoyed this considerably more than video game tycoon, which I also enjoyed. Even as a work in progress it is more than worth playing, and well supported.

Having spent 3.2 hours playing I can safely say "Squee". Game as expected. Including fun quotes a la Alpha Centauri. It's the little touches.

Having spent 17 hours in game, this is still true. I lvoe the unit customisation, the intersection of the tech and alighnment and perks, and I love the new way of doing the tech tree. It feels like Alpha Centrauri updated. I wish it had the little videos and voice overs of Alpha Centuari, but with the poroduction value of this game shining through, I'm really not going to complain much. Love it.

Oh, and it launched with hot seat.
