Teaching the ways of KGB assasination, 1 bloody corpse at a time. Kids can learn to!
Wow. This game impresses me to this day. Generally, when people like me hear "Call of Duty" and "Best game" in the same sentence, it kills brain cells. I think IW and Treyarch are forgetting what makes a good game "great". In this case, Call of Duty 4 has a fantastic and addicting storyline, and an mutiplayer you could kill your fingers by playing so much. But what makes this game so better than every other Call of Duty today?
Let me start off by saying that the story is my favorite part of this game, only wishing it could be longer, and have a more clear ending. This game gives you leeway to take your own path. The characters are well acted out, the villians are menacing and memorable, and the storyline is slow paced but keeps you wondering: what's at the end of this road? The anticipation only grows bigger as you progress.
Call of Duty today is all eye-candy, and the story offers little to no slack to do take different paths to your. It's way to fast paced. The characters are dull and boring, and have almost no dialog changes. I don't even bother caring about 85% of the villans anymore because they only appear for a fraction of a second before the mission ends. The guns look like Bushmaster and Nerf had sex with each other. IW tried way to hard to make MW2 and MW3 look good.
Now lets go onto the biggest change of all: Multiplayer. In COD4, whenever you kill an enemy team member, you gain at least 10 EXP. You have a primary, and a pistol. You have a 1-3 attachments you can unlock for your gun, and 5 unlockable camo patterns. You have 3 perks. The blue perk: Being for explosives (RPG's, C4, etc) or ammo upgrades. The red perk: for either your gun or yourself (Stopping Power, Juggernaut, Overkill, UAV Jammer). The green perk: for yourself only (Dead Silence, Extreme Conditioning). Everything is simple and straight foward. Oh and you only have 3 kill streaks.
Now we move onto MW2. I noticed immediatly, that they took out a lot of perks, and added useless ones. The perk benifits that they kept, are unlocked when you get the perk to "pro", essentially garbage. Instead of simply leveling up, and getting more and more perks, you have to do a bunch of retarted tasks to unlock pro benifits of a perk that you would otherwise get instantly in COD4. What were they THINKING?? Kill streaks are pain in the ass too. There's 12 more kill streaks than in in COD4? Some of them are nice to get, sure, but they're also a nusance. Now you also have "Death streaks", which is the most useless thing in MW2. So whenever you die 3-4 times, you can either steal a person's class, drop a grenade, get Juggernaut for 10 seconds upon spawning, or go into last stand with primary. The thing that pisses me off the most though, is how easily you can get a kill. It requires almost no effort with the amount of killing instruments you can carry around at one time. It's like this for every single new COD game that comes out. It's not worth my money anymore
Sorry for the rant. COD4 is the last and greatest thing we'll ever see out of Infinity Ward studios. Don't even get me started on Black ops 2 either..
Fantastic game. Everything about it makes Ostfront nearly obsolete. As a few words of caution, don't expect the campaign mode to good; in fact, don't play campaign at all. The Multiplayer aspect overshadows campaign mode's playability and overall fun.
9/10: For the one who looks for realism, this game is unparalelled. A must buy.
