I recommend this game solely for it's gameplay. Gameplay wise it's very fun. They added new mechanics that weren't present in the previous games (sliding, ability to choose between 3 different action skills, etc.). The normal mode and true vault hunter mode (without mayhem) is pretty easy while still being fun. Also, the variety of guns and annointments of said guns (which is an end game mechanic) is done well since loot is what Borderlands is all about.

However, I would not recommend the game for its storyline. Story wise, out of all the borderlands games (including pre-sequel and tales of the borderlands) it has the most lackluster and frustrating story. It feels as though I'm playing through a bad fanfiction written by a writer who has little experience. They killed off many characters (whom I won't spoil) in infuriating ways. They did not utilize many of the characters from previous games and only gave them a short spotlight (Zer0, Tiny Tina, Mordecai, Brick, Maya) or they completely omitted some favorite characters (Zed, Krieg, Gaige, Athena) in order to keep some newer, completely useless characters in the spotlight instead. Honestly, I believe that Gearbox should have utilized their characters from their previous games more since they were already well written and had a fleshed out personality/history. Also, fans actually care about these characters and want to know what's happened to them over the past seven years rather than be introduced to a Mary Sue like replacement for Maya (you know who I'm talking about).

Also, the main antagonists were cringe worthy. I understand they're supposed to fit the archetype of internet influencers, many of who are cringey, but they added no redeeming qualities to these villains. Instead, they're just stereotypical mustache-twirling bad guys who have no other facets to their character aside from the fact that they are evil and that daddy didn't love them enough.

Moving onto environments, the planets in this game are too empty. There aren't enough places to explore, and it doesn't feel the same as in Borderlands 2 where you could search each nook and cranny and find some sort of easter egg or a secret (one of my favorites: the minecraft creeper easter egg). However, that isn't present in this game. The worlds aren't alive like in Borderlands 2. There aren't enough side missions and it feels very barren.

Another huge issue that I've came across is with the mayhem update. Any level above mayhem 7 (solo) is unbalanced. The legendary drops are obsolete since they don't do enough damage to the enemies, and the legendary grenades as well don't scale up and deal enough damage. Hopefully this will be fixed in an upcoming patch. The only character I can play above mayhem 7 is with my Amara since she is a tank/damage dealing class. I feel like Fl4k is especially unbalanced in mayhem since he is more of a glass canon type character. In higher mayhem modes, he can only sustain a few shots before he is downed which leads to a frustrating Demon Souls-esque game. I love challenges but fighting an enemy for 20+ minutes, only to run out of ammo then get downed for the fifth time and having to start from the beginning is incredibly off putting.

But aside from all that, I can recommend this game to players who aren't looking for a good story like in the previous games and are only looking for a fun gameplay experience.

I love multiplayer games, FPS games, and horde games, so this was the perfect combination of everything! I've been through thick and thin with this game. I've been through all the drama when the game was pay to win and the ridiculous amount of paid DLC that weren't all that good, but Overkill really fixed it. They added a bunch of free DLC that give you great guns and perk decks, although they're kind of like the poor man's version of some of the paid DLCs.

I also like how they replaced Dallas' and Chains' models with some hot male actors.

Overall, great game! Lots of fun. Well balanced for the most part. The community isn't super toxic either.

If they come out with a Payday 3, I will definitely buy!

This game stresses me out so much. It's so hard. I've died 20+ times in each level on easy which is a bummer. But I keep playing it. Please someone chop my hands off.
