DoE is a fresh, innovative take on the rogue-like genre. Its door-opening mechanic drives the action of the game, and it is addictive. It plays a little like a really exciting and engaging board game, with your success relying on your strategy and planning a couple steps ahead and a little less on quick reflexes. Each opened door brings new challenges and rewards. The system of risk and reward results in numerous emergent stories to tell, especially when a baddie decides to bust down several extra doors, flooding you with enemies.

If you spend a little time playing (or reading) and learn the mechanics of the game, you'll be successful enough to face the challenges of the random-generated moments that can result in moments of the game reaally trying to kill you.

Additionally, it has a top-notch soundtrack and a fantastic art-style if you love pixel art like I do. The characters are vibrant and unlocking all the characters is difficult but satisfying. The cast of characters and the numerous "pods" which alter the game rules slightly (like, no health regen, but cheaper healing cost, etc.) will challenge you to adapt and learn different play styles and characters. The multiplayer option is really fun, as well.

In summary, its satisfying replayability and stylish flair offer endless fun ;)
