First up, I will say that I have personally enjoyed playing it overall, despite the many gripes I have. However, the sheer quantity of gripes means I simply cannot in good conscience recommend the game to others.

To put it simply, the game is really, really hard, because the AI is awful and the game hardly gives you a chance to recover from one raider attack to the next. I literally end up with 10s of bodies littered around the inside and outside of the space-station because the medical staff (who are supposed to clean these bodies up) do so at a slower rate than new bodies are generated. Your station crew love attacking eachother due to unhappiness, with no obvious way of resolving their unhappiness. Your non-security personnel love to run directly into the line of fire of the raider boarding party, whilst your actual security personnel will slowly amble over from the other end of the base, even though you put down a beacon more than 30 seconds ago.

However, the fact the game is hard due to the rubbish AI is, I think, what makes me enjoy it. I can build a successful space-station despite the crew being my worst enemy.

The game also, in general, feels unfinished - which is probably not surprising because, despite what Double Fine Productions may tell you, it simply isn't. They basically cancelled the game and released a Version "1.0" which did tidy up some loose ends but by no means all of them, nor did it add any sorely-needed late-game content.
