Formerly Paradise Lost
The phrase "fast company" refers to a group of people who are quick witted and "with it" or in other words familiar with or wise to something. The first time I read the term was in a book on card sharping (cheating); the author described a sleight of hand technique that was easy to perform but he advised against using it in "fast company" for fear of them discovering the ruse.
Fast can also mean swift in motion, mentally agile, securely fixed, firmly loyal, or with reckless abandon.
