Did you grow up playing Final Fantasy, the Legend of Zelda, and all of the games in between the two? If so, you owe it to yourself to pick up this gem, and relive the nostalgia. A really fun trip back through all of the iterations of JRPs in the 80's and 90's - soooo good.
Don't let this game's 1999 release date deter you: The Longest Journey is a wonderfully unique story, filled with engaging and memorable characters. While there are two or three obnoxious puzzle, the majority of the adventure game mechanics in this gem are logical and straightforward. I clocked in at 21 hours played by the end.... but you could go faster if you make liberal use of an FAQ - I only resorted to using one 7 times throughout the entire journey.
Easily the best adventure game that I've played all year. No pixel-hunting nonsense, lots of (logical) challenging puzzles, and a fantastic plot. As an added bonus it's fully voice acted (and well!)
