I've been playing computer games almost since they first became available, but until recently I wouldn't have called myself a dedicated gamer. I bought computer games regularly, but not to the extent I do now; maybe one or two every month. It wasn't until I was hit at speed by a car (approx 50mph) while cycling to work, which left me with a broken back, that I became a committed gamer. I find it amazing how the immersiveness of many games really helps my pain relief; so now I have the perfect excuse for playing and also for buying games as often as I feel the need. What takes my fancy is soon to be found either on my shelves, or in my various game accounts. I only started using Steam mid January 09, when I decided to buy Defense Grid: The Awakening. I actually bought that and another Steam game called Galactic Bowling from Fileplanet via my founder’s club subscription. Since then to date (20th July 09) I’ve bought 114 games from Steam.
Anyway, I’d recommend Steam to anyone now. I reckon I’ve saved well over a thousand pounds from the games I’ve purchased so far. I only wish I’d been careful with my money over the last few years because I’ve been pre-ordering games virtually on a weekly basis since my accident and at one time was buying upwards of three or more arcade games every days from places like Reflexive Arcade. They were costing me nearly $20 each as well. Still, I got great pleasure from most of them so shouldn’t complain. Lol
‘cuze the waffle. My opiates have just kicked in – I always waffle when that happens, lol.
Apart from playing games, I love anything to do with space, photography and computers in general. I always build my own computers now. I’ve only ever bought two off the shelf computers, the first was a 386 with only 4Mb of RAM and a 40Mb HDD, though at the time it was considered a top of the range model. It cost me £500 in an auction (the retail price in the shops was over a thousand). It had come from a business that had gone into liquidation. One of the first games I installed on it was called Darklands, a brilliant RPG, that even today is fantastic despite the old 8 bit graphics. Prior to that computer it was console types such as the Commodore 64 and the Amiga 500, though I also had one called an Einstein, which had 20Kb more RAM than the Commodore at 84Kb, lol
I saw your message several hours after it had been sent (Monday morning I think). Hopefully I'll be okay for a Left 4 Dead game Wednesday Evening (GMT) assuming I continue to get better. I'm staying away from the computer till then. Let me know via this comments section what time you want to play. (It'll also confirm that you've seen my message.)
Apart from Atmosphir, which isn't a Steam game the following are likely to be showing:
X3, UT3 , Plants and Zombies and 3D Gold
I'm feeling a little better tonight, so I hope to be back online by Wednesday.
