Early Access Review
I wrote a review over a year ago recommending this game. At it's current state, I don't recommend it.

It crashes regularly, has texture tearing issues, the AI is abysmal, numerous frustrating bugs, very poor resource spawning...

Here's my recent experince: I try planets because it sounds cool. I spawn in a lander and spend AGES flying to find resources. Navigating on planets feels awkward. The enemies are so poorly designed that I just turn them off. Minecraft has better AI enemies than Space Engineers and yet Minecraft's enemies AI is simplistic and uninteresting. It's amazing they managed to do something WORSE than Minecraft's enemy AI.

So, I decide planets need more work so I start a world in space, my old favorite. I spawn in a respawn ship and instantly die. I try again and instantly die. I try every respawn ship and instantly die and the only one that worked was the planetary lander, WHICH DOESN'T WORK IN SPACE. It has atmospheric thrusters!

So, that mode was unplayable. I made a new space map, this time starting at a platform station. No problems respawning. I think this is great now. I go around getting resources and building stuff. However, every 5-10 minutes it would crash randomly. I have Windows 10, gtx970, 16GB ram, 3.5GHz processor, and no other applications running that should interfere with it. Yet I get consistent crashes at random.

I put up with the crashes and keep playing, saving constantly. I realize that for no reason, my assemblers stop automatically taking resources they need to build. So I have to MANUALLY DRAG INGOTS INTO IT. This is something basic that used to work just fine.

Another major pain for me was finding resources. My starting asteroid had iron, ice, Pt, Ni. So I had to search for the other resources on other asteroids. No big deal. I go around searching asteriods and I leave a GPS marker at each to keep track of the ores that I find. I had to search over TWENTY ASTEROIDS to find silver! And I only found two little patches of silicon and magnesium. It took way too long. It was a tedious and unfun experience, which used to be no problem.

They've made many changes to the game that introduced instability, frustrating bugs, poorly designed AI and poor random generation. Do not buy SE until they fix these things. It used to feel like a Beta, now it feels like an Alpha.
