While this and Half-Life pushed their own bars - and earned respective FPS crowns - System Shock (1 & 2), Thief (1 & 2) and Deus Ex (sorry, 2!) took the FPARPG (is that even a gaming tag?) crown... and nothing since has ever truly bettered upon such foundation titles, from ~20 years previous to my typing here today.
Such is a sorry state of affairs!
It seems we've already had our ENTHUSIASTIC "golden era"; as did the arcades and 8bit home consoles before us.
As gorgeous as it was (and comparatively still is) it was still a lonely experience a-la a typical "blank slate" "id" FPS protagonist.

On the other hand, H-L had the ultimate sci-fi B-movie cluster-f'ck narrative.
If this was ever reinmagined, I would expect a Crysis(original)-styled affair.
HALO and Operation Flashpoint were another two FP games that did everything right back in the day.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy a modern reimagining of this with intelligent and persistent AI [they can follow you indefinitely]
I encourage any young players to check this out.
The weapon variety is great, as are the general enemies and bosses.
The adventure is a large one too.
I still consider this overlooked when compared to lesser titles of its era.
A CLASSIC FPS EVERY TRUE GAMER SHOULD EXPERIENCE.

Thanks for engaging, simply for the fact you've steered my mind to neglected considerations. You won't know what the hell I'm on about but the epiphanies I'm dealing with right now are quite overwhelming. I'm not going there; you didn't ask, but I will thank you. You inadvertently steered me into some accidental insight and I effectively "levelled-up". That's ludicrous, I know but I believe I just accessed more knowledge regarding our masters' motivations: It's not even bad. It's morally detached. It's an obsession. It's misguided. It's mechanical and it's selfish and consumes and destroys to get what it wants, although it is not the things it consumes and destroys that it wants. It is looking for answers in the results of the operations it seeds and it doesn't care because it already knows, respects and is mastering to ride "cause and effect". You don't happen to have heard of any large databasing and/or analysis operations anywhere in the world today, do you?

Your parrot story is a fair analogy of intellectual academia. I can never fight them in a war of words even though I know in my heart they are full of ♥♥♥♥ and spend their entire lives attempting to reinforce old theory using new theory and convince everyone that there is some kind of truth at play. This is why we have fantasy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fast replacing science.

As for your previous quip about me talking alone: Yes, I'm essentially leaving notes all over the place. I have three notebooks at home and utilise virtual stickies and notepad a lot. I don't care. The internet is not real. Unplug the power and it's gone. There was nothing here anyway. It's a sick concept that I am sat in a room alone typing into a void. It's more sick that not many other people realise how sick of a concept that is and perceive it to be normal.
