Really fun and physical game. The 30€ price tag is a bit steep for what it offers in terms of content I think but it's not like there's a whole lot of quality VR games around so I guess it's justified.

The VR implementation is really bad as of now (launch day):

The menus on the title screen are kind of broken (they appear with a black background and you can't see where you're pointing), The game tells me to press the bottom face button to cancel use of the tool (which I guess would be the A button on my reverb G2) but it doesn't work, and then it tells me to use the Y button to bring up the menu, which doesn't work either.

Also some effects like the fog you can see on the mountains seem to have an incorrect Z value, and they appear as if they're right in front of you when in reality they should be far away.

Appart from that it seems to run well and looks pretty good, so I'll change my rating if the developers can fix the issues in VR soon, if not I'll probably just ask for a refund.

This is very similar to the first game (The story picks up right where the first chapter stopped, but your inventory starts from scratch), with a few new mechanics. Overall a really good VR game.

The fact that it's a Quest port means it's not as visually impressive as it could, and some textures are pretty low resolution, but it still looks very good, and it also means it's easy to get a constant 90fps even when running at a high resolution.

The medium is a really good indie game that would have deserved to be a AAA production. It's probably my favorite game I played in the last couple of years, and while it's not Silent Hill 2 it does give strong Silent Hill vibes. The game has a bunch of issues that I'll get out of the way now:
  • It's pretty short (maybe 7 hours) and has very little replay value, no multiple endings here.
  • Some animations are clunky
  • Gameplay is meh : there's no combat or shooting, but the game still makes you use every single button on the controller for trivial actions, and the puzzles are few and easy (some of them just require you to inspect objects while Marianne solves the puzzle out loud). There's also no option to use tank controls for old school survival horror fans who prefer them (I find tank control works better with fixed camera games like this)
  • performance was not great even on an RTX 3080, the average FPS is OK, but the game will stutter when switching between worlds (both in DX11 and DX12, DX12 improves the overall smoothness but makes the stuttering even worse).

So yeah, reading the list above I realize it doesn't look good, but ultimately none of that mattered, because I really loved playing The Medium.
I won't spoil the story but turned out very differently from what I expected, it's intriguing enough from the start to justify playing the game, but it really picks up steam in the second half of the game. The atmosphere is definitely the best I've seen since Silent Hill 2 but is not just a copy (although the inspiration is clear) and is helped by gorgeous (well... creepy and horrifying but you know what I mean) locations. Of course the music and sound design is awesome. There aren't a lot of characters but they are really well made, and voiced by more than decent actors.

So I would definitely recommend this game, but maybe not at full price since it's pretty short and you'll probably not play it more than once or twice.

That's quake all right.

If you're not sure if you should get it you probably want to wait for the game to be released (and with it the Free to Pay version). The game really is in Early access : There's not a whole lot of content, no ranked games, and game balance is being tweaked every other month. But unperfect as it is it's alreay a lot of fun to play, so I'm sure the final version will be great.
