Too early to post a full review, but from what I have played it is fun.
Not sure about the Portals Mechanic. Playable races are varied and exciting.
The Story is mostly good.
Most importantly plenty of room for growth... Mortal Empires for this game should be an absolute cracker.
It might be worth waiting till then.
But yes I would recommend it.

Arguably the best PC game ever made and it is still a classic. At the time was a massive leap in realism and content, better than anything I had played. Still play often. All true gamers own this game! 10/10
