Long and the short of it (TL;DR): Good game. Solid game play. Enjoyable. Can be difficult at times (lol). Not an FPS. Optional soldier voices, kill cam, etc. If you're a die hard x-com fan that believes this is blasphemy: don't play this game. Cause you'll never enjoy it. Let the rest of us enjoy this little gem.
While I didn't play too many of the original X-Com games, I did play the first one. This is no direct replacement for the old one, and definitely doesn't have the deep micromanagement that X-Com:UFO Defense had. What it does have are smaller squads (Think more like a kill team/seal team six) with abilities to round them out. It gives more meaning to individual soldiers and utilizing their abilities against a larger alien force. Imagine storming an alien battleship with six elite soldiers (if you're doing it right) armed with the proper gear and class abilities to work together as a cohesive group.
Another thing which I was worried about was map size. Welp, definitely not worried after doing my first playthrough (Classic difficulty, Ironman). The larger maps are rediclously huge, which makes me happy there were not as many soldiers being ordered about as it would take a long time to get done.
If you're looking for a remake, look to Xenonaughts (closer to a reskin and remake in an earlier time period, and which will be finished...sometime). If you're looking for one of the better X-COM games that is more a reimagining (and from what I understand comes closer to what Gallop wanted in the game) then give this a shot. The Demo doesn't do it justice, look for a sale or find a friend who'll let you give it a whirl. It is still a difficult game (Hell, I had to start over/quit and start a new game 10x because I made a tactical error or made a poor tactical decision, etc.) So don't go in thinking it'll be a cake walk.
Most importantly, if you do grab it. Have fun. :)
Been a while since I've played survival horror and it actually scare the crap out of me. Worse, I panicked. Even though I've spent maybe under two hours in, I know I am in for one hell of a ride.
When I first played Dragon Age: Origins, it was on the xbox360. I found it to be charming, full of good story, and characters I enjoyed--however there were things I didn't like about the game such as the camera angles and the controls.
Come to Steam, and installing it onto my computer I found out what I was missing out! This is very much like baldur's gate spiritual successor with (What I assume) is an amped up Engine which is reminiscent of Neverwinter Nights 1 but much more interactive.
Then I found the Modding communities out there to support this game, and I found it to be exceedingly replayable. 168.7 hours of play, and that is from playing DA:Origins and Awakening and exploring all the side stuff, etc.
If you are going to get an rpg that has some replayability, Dragonage isn't a bad way to go at all. Just resist the urge to look on FAQs, and play a character as you know they would be, etc. You'll find the experience in the end very rewarding!
