In 2001, back in the days before 9/11 happened, Valve gave Quake deathmatch a Half-Life makeover and bundled it with Half-Life as an official, free mod. Valve released it on Steam as a commercial product a couple years later - notice this game's store ID is one of the lowest on the platform - and now almost nobody plays it.

The game itself is decent, it's literally just Quake's deathmatch but with a distinct Half-Life-style aesthetic. It's kind of janky since it's a remake of Quake's multiplayer in an engine that itself is a heavily modified version of Quake's engine, meant for somewhat more realistic games like Half-Life. Nevertheless, it's a pretty fun throwback for a bit if you play on servers with bots, and even moreso if you can find other people. If you have enough friends who bought it in the Valve Complete Pack that you can badger into playing, you'll probably be alright.

If you're a Half-Life or Quake fan, this is a curiosity probably worth checking out during a sale if nothing else. If you plan on playing something like this semi-regularly, you might get by with bots and the very small community that remains. It's worth noting that the actual Quake games, and Half-Life's base multiplayer, still have active communities compared to this game.
