Early Access Review
The build-a-bear workshop of trail of tears style roadtrips. Impressive displays of agony, learned so much about about putting holes in people, particularly myself.

Score: Cry out as I lash out at you/10

Over the course of my playthrough, I considered this to be a very competent and well made love letter to the nostalgia brought out by thoughts of Ys 3 and Dragon Buster(valor), with some ideas of it's own. Fun game play, fun story that had me wondering about the plot's mysteries and twisting around some stuff I thought I had totally figured out. I hit credits, saw an ending, was satisfied, and entered into the post-game.

My opinion has changed since entering the post-game, I thought this was a person's love letter, but instead I am realizing this is an incredible passion project, and the amount of work necessary for both tying together loose narrative details and additional gameplay details being introduced is so surprising, leaving me howling at the idea of how they had no reason to go as hard as they have at everything they are pushing after you beat the main story, other than they just felt the need to double their entire workload for everything introduced afterwards.

If this had come out in the era it looks like it spawned from, it would have been considered a legendary title with obsessive fans frothing over it's details in message boards for years, but instead it's going to have to settle for one of the best indie rpgs you could possibly play right now.

I'm not a fan of MHA
I'm not a fan of battle royales
But this, this is pretty damn fun.
Monetization sucks, but I can safely ignore ♥♥♥♥ that wants money for the most part

See a lot of people in reviews complaining about how there's no solo queue or that everything is behind gacha locks.
Everything isn't behind gacha locks, half the cast unlocks from just playing enough of the game and no other way. 3 more characters are behind tickets you buy out of the shop through some other currency that isn't premium, and then at the end of the day there are total of three(3) characters exclusive to the gacha. I can just F2P and save up tickets to try for them at some future point since there's enough character variety open without them, but you also get daily free picks of any locked character you want to use anyways, so who cares?

As for solo queue, anyone crying out for that hasn't looked at the game very long, as the characters and their roles in combat can be all over the place, everyone can technically do damage, some can burst damage out better than others, have diffrent health values, etc. The team synergy is the name of the game, you have hit and run characters who have very high mobility like ochako or tsuyu, frog girl which can also pull downed allies and revive them fast from a distance. If people even looked at what they were asking for with solo queue for even an instant, you'd just be looking at people rolling nothing but dabi matches for the projectile nullifcation field and constant homing shots with DOT.

TL;DR, I'm having fun, I'm not whaling, why aren't you?

I've finished the story of the game, I'm tired of having run through this in a single weekend, and I'm ready to explain to you what's up in short terms.

1. Story sucks. Setting is fine, but the dialogue and characters are joyless and vapid. Story plays alongside matchmaking into the one game mode available to you. 56 matches to complete the story.

2. PvP is complete trash, unsalvagable. Because the game rolls a random event for people to do in regular matches, PvP just becomes a massive ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ depending on what event you get, especially something like Escort/(payload) where the Meta is to save all resources till the final 10% where both teams face eachother down near the goal, and just spend everything to see who gets team wiped first (and ultimately loses cause you don't have time to comeback after that). Trying anything against the other team in transit in this mode prior to this is futility for anyone attempting it.

tl;dr for PvP: Multiple suits have AoE instant kill ults, the damage was designed for enemy dinosaurs in mind which have thousands of HP, and the beefiest suit you have is Roadblock at just over a 1000 HP. One suit's Ult is a cone in front of it that penetrates through obstacles, and does 4000 damage, unable to be blocked by shields. Instant death from cover against all inside the effect range. That's just one suit, multiple others have similar damage.

3: PvE: PvE is absolutely the game's shining point, but it wants to force you to slog through it for it's best points. The moment to moment of the regular gameplay is passable, but the game truely shines with it's Boss fights and Massive waves of enemy fights. Boss fights have fun mechanics and people needing to play their suits roles to actually get through them, kind of like Final Fantasy 14 for those who know. And the Massive Wave fights are where thousands of enemies come at you like a tidal wave, and both of these types of fights are where the game shows it's best features.

There's only 3 boss fights in the game. 2 Massive Enemy Wave battles earmarked in the story. Massive Wave battles can occur as a random event in normal missions, but it's extremely rare, I've only seen it happen twice in over 20 hours.

4: Lag. I cannot overstate how bad the lag has been with my experience in this. Over 90% of the matches I've played have had noticable lag, players teleporting around, enemies teleporting, hits taking over a second to register, inputs for skills needing to save myself getting negated by something else getting synched up to the client shortly afterwards. Can't even check ping/latency in game, they don't want players to see that.

As others have stated, there is no true PvE mode currently in the game, there's is one due out in about 2 weeks from the posting of this review, and you can bet if it promises to be nothing but the kind of content that the boss fights and massive enemy wave battles have shown, you can bet everyone will abandon the normal queue for it immediately, causing PvP to dry up.
(Update: Savage Gauntlet - the pure PvE mode - is just a rotating, once a week time attack in a very short level for leaderboard bragging rights. It's a total non-starter.)

I can't recommend this, despite the boss fights being extremely fun, because you can't just choose to play that content exclusively, and everything else in the game isn't nearly good enough to constitute slogging through it just for the gem in the rest of the ♥♥♥♥ pile.

Pokeymam but everything is ugly but that's cool I guess

Also weird ass build setups for teams that allow you to do oddball stuff to win fights, like killing yourself to own the enemy.

This game made survivor fun, a thing dead by daylight fumbled on time and time again.
In fact, every general facet of this game is just so much more fun than DBD, people complaining about the monetization and "loot box" ♥♥♥♥ haven't even looked at the game long enough to see what is or isn't a problem.

Yes, there's a gacha, and there are battle transformations and skills for survivors tied behind it, but your default kit is so good that the majority of the stuff you feel your probably pulling for doesn't actually matter that much, and you constantly get free rolls of the machine in the form of ticket consumables. Also the battlepass in the game is totally free, unless you feel like spending the TP (premium currency) on buying levels for it. TP is earnable off the battlepass and in game from survivor levels, it's miniscule but the majority of the stuff the average player will probably spend TP on is the cosmetic items in the shop, since some items will go for either the in-game currency or TP, so it's really up to you how much that actually bothers you if you wanted something.

It's really not limiting you much if you just bought the game and decided that you don't want to spend any more money, so the TL;DR is...

Survivor is fun and the various skills offer up a lot of variety in how you play.
Raider is fun, and each raider has fundamental differences that offer up a lot in how you should play them.
Learning the game will give you a huge advantage in either role, and people thinking they're gonna try to live out their fighting game fantasy of 1v1 on the raider as a survivor really don't understand how ridiculous a notion that ends up being - even with dragonballs. But god bless you for trying though.

Overwatch is dead to me, this is fun.

But the monetization is crap, and very little in the way of rewards for matches.

I'll still play it because the actual game is exceptionally fun, but all the cosmetics and gacha and unlocking of diffrent units will leave anyone F2P grinding their ass off to unlock a decent chunk of the roster, much less trying to get points for what they want out of the cosmetics.

Anyone crying about balance right now is just having skill issues, learn or cry.

Funny chinese malware game, excellent character creator, really felt like I was getting strong and ♥♥♥♥ and then I pet a cat coming out of a rock and then i force grabbed it and threw it, then a bigger cat pushing a cart showed up and I tried to rob it and it screamed rape into the wilderness over and over but I couldn't kill it.

I just wanted to feel strong, you were almost there.
