Brief History of the Federal Army in the Civil War: On April 15th 1861, the federal army formed up (75,000 volunteers) by Abraham Lincolns order to end succession. Abraham Lincoln thought the war would be over at the battle of manasass, but the confederate army pushed back the federal army making the war to continue to 1865. The Federal Army had most of its success in the western theater, but not so much in the eeastern theater untill Robert E. lee was finally defeated in the battle of gettysburg (1863). The war ended up going into the Federal Army's hands while taking the confederate capital (Richmond), and basically making Lee to surrender.
