Gameplaywise game doesn't offer anything innovative, it's a solid TPP shooter, which still can be fun to play in 2024. Finished the game on Suicidial and except for maybe two encounters it was a breeze. Yet this alone isn't worth checking, the story and the details are.

Haven't played a shooter game that takes place in a 'realistic' setting with plot that good since probably CoD BO 1. Even if I've managed to beat the game in less than ten hours I could easily distinguish and say something about all the main characters, which is not a common thing in action games. The details I've mentioned are also important, aware observer can notice changes in player's look, behavior, how the characters talk not only to each other but enemies etc. over the course of the game. Voice acting is of high quality, actors really played their role. Some popular tracks that appear in the game are also top notch (Deep Purple, Björk with a song from Drawing Restraint caught me completely by surprise).

Game can be found at discounts for few bucks, and is worth it, even if it might seem bit outdated if it comes to gameplay, the story alone makes up for it.

Really fun game, copies the movies atmosphere 1-1.

You can find here everything you would expect, enjoyable melee combat system (similar to other WB games), car combat system, which is great, especially when fighting groups of enemies. Both Max and his car can be upgraded and modified in multiple ways, map offers variety of activities, some story missions are just pure gold (loved pretty much everything in the Underdune).

The only thing I was kinda missing were other vehicle types, all we see here are 'regular' muscle cars, buggies, some pick-ups - some heavily modified yes but still, there are no motorcycles, trucks (small ones) are pretty much tied to quests.

Anyway great action game, worth checking, even more if you liked the movies.

TLDR Enjoyable cRPG, full of turn based (and for the most part fun) fights with rather boring/simple main plot, all served with unique (often cringe) sense of humour. Definately would recommend for any cRPG enthusiasts.

Main plot wasn’t anything I will remeber for a long time, yet I have to admit that first „act” (Cysel part) was definately the most interesting. Secondary missions were usually simple but often enough quite unique and entertaining. Locations are often large but they never felt too big, on the other hand most venues were typical for any high fantasy cRPG.

Turn based fights seem to be the core and main focus of DOS. Really fun during first part of the game, unfortunately later they become repetative, tedious and longer than I would like.

Characters can advance in any way without locking themselves up, meaning we can create all sorts of builds, yet the leveling system is quite simple, for beginners it could be considered as an advantage, on the contrary for expert cRPG fans it probably lacks depth.

The best part of the game are it’s mechanics, from mixing elements (freezing water, putting out fire with rain, etc.), to combining different objects. The way how the game is created allows player to solve problems in different, sometimes unique ways, locked cage and you don’t have the key? Just teleport one party member behind it, or steal a key, kill npc and take the key, destroy the gate, talk to an animal to learn about hidden switch etc. Solving such puzzles never gets boring. For me it is game’s strongest point.

If it comes to difficulty I’d say once you learn the basics it gets really easy, most bosses have some kind of weakness, so even less experienced players should do fine.

Audiovisuals are perfectly okish, even for 2023, not much to say about it.

Game is surprisingly long, first playthrough took me about 70 hours, while trying to do all quests/clear all locations. Unfortunately game due to being mainly combat focused started to get bit boring/tedious in later parts.

While the idea for the game might be interesting, it’s implementation isn’t satisfactory. Player’s input is pretty much limited to avoiding walls, basing on the submarine’s sonar and taking photos at few predefined locations and… that’s it. Horror/plot aspect also could be expanded, as it’s nothing you will remember in few days.

Visuals are fine, yet also really limited, we don’t really see much but the interior of our tiny sub.

Sound although scarce can be atmospheric.

It took me about 40min to beat entire game (you can even 100% it during the first run), which if you consider the price ~$10 is in my opinion quite disappointing.

Would recommend only during big sale.

Age of Decadence is an unique experience. At the beginning especially if you play as hybrid character (not fully committed to either combat or 'talking') it will be difficulty, often even frustrating but once you give it some time, you will understand it more, with understanding more and more entertainment will come, which in the end should allow you to love the game but not unconditionally.

The main advantage of the game is that it offers several ways of resolving most problems you are going to face. That might not be impressive, but additionally, different solutions often result in different outcomes, sometimes they won't vary much (different item or skill points type being awarded) but sometimes they might have major impact on the entire playthrough or might start a new (and otherwise missable) quest chain.
Our character can join few factions during his/hers journey, which will allow us to follow and watch the main plot from different angles, I enjoyed it more with every consecutive playthrough, as it provides extra depth and understanding to what is going on, plus thanks to this we can learn about the motives and and goals that are driving opposing groups.
Also I really liked the setting, harsh post apocalyptic Rome with 'fantasy' elements isn't something you see often (Fallout NV's Ceasar vibes), to be honest game's atmosphere reminded me a lot of old Fallouts (1-2), it’s dangerous world to live in.
Finished the game with every faction and many different builds (pure combatants, talkers and hybrids) and all of them felt unique, so the spirit of replayability is strong in the game.

However there are few things that I'm not really fond of. First, the combat system, especially at the beginning is SUPER and I really mean it, SUPER demanding, especially if you don't go 100% fighter (that was my mistake), which often was driving me mad, forcing to save scumm like probably I've never done in my life. When you play it for the first time commit ONE HUNDRED percent into either combat or talking, and by 100% I mean dump combat/civil attributes, do not distribute skills too broad, focus yourself on specific niche, it will help your sanity and won't make you hate the game. Also AoD likes to soft lock players, so learning to always have some spare skill points just in case helps IMMENSELY.
Didn't like that player has usually no way to affect his/hers starting combat position, like being a ranged fighter you will start a lot just next to the enemy or even surrounded by few of them, turning you into a dead corpse instantly, if you are not good at dodging/blocking. I also believe that many fights could be made easier, so playing hybrids was less punishing.
There is also super important thing, do NOT expect your every character to be able to finish all the quests or even the main plot. You have to be prepared to give up on some characters (especially if 'success' was not your primary objective when creating it) and try something else. Most gamers are not accustomed to such gaming, so this might be hard to swollow, be warned.
Balance in the game is fine I'd say, some skills are worse than others (I think this is noticable especially in civil skills - for example traps/stealing, but happens to combat as well, felt like axe passive without points into critical strikes is much worse than other proficiencies).

Audio is good, it's somehow scarce but there are few gems like Maadoran/Theron music. Visuals on the other hand are really bad, reminded me of ~2000 RTS games, but to my surprise I got used to it pretty quickly.

All in all AoD is not for everyone, but if you are cRPG fan, especially if you loved games like Fallout 1/2 give it a shot, if you are afraid it might be too difficult and you won't like it, wait for the discount, then you can have it for like 5 bucks, which honestly is a steal. If you gonna survive first few hours you won't regret it.

Top notch single player experience, even in 2023. If you liked the episodes from the 90’s, you will love it. To my surprise plot/lore was quite interesting, which is a nice addition.

Multiplayer while being half dead still can be enjoyable, compared to usual FPS games, it’s crazy fast with old school mechanics (medkits, ammo pickups etc) but also features some unique game modes or novelties like demon runes, which allow you to transform into a demon for a short time. As for European hours I’ve never had much problems with finding games. On the other hand experience is often ruined by lagging people or literal cheaters (speedhacking/aimbots etc aren’t rare here).

TLDR Great game, still playable in 2022 (requires some configuration/mod tweaking though).

Plot - interesting throughout the entire game, dialogues might seem short and simple but I was listening to all of them with pleasure (really enjoyed JC’s voice actor). Choices we make impact the future, sometimes quite significantly. Surprisingly plot becomes much more interesting with the recent global events.

Mechanics - I was surprised that for over 20 years old game it’s so complex. We have FPP but with lots of RPG elements. We have limited inventory space, so we need to manage it carefully, as we are not able to hoard all items and be prepared for all threats. Main character can level skills like hacking, lockpicking, combat skills etc. And what I really liked here was that even the more situational skills are useful due to their lower cost in experience points. Additionally we have multiple augumentations (not possible to have them all at once), which grant us with active powers, all but one can be further upgraded, so they become more powerful.

Levels - even simple ideas like Gas Station are highly pleasent to play due to design and multiple ways to achieve the goal. One of the strongest points of the game.

Combat - this got old the most, but I suspect that most Deus Ex players are going for stealth playthroughs, so won’t be much of an issue anyway.

Graphics/Music - even without mods game is not eye burning, especially if you grew up with 80/90’ games. Music, sound and overall ascethics are superb and provide unique dystopian future vibes.

Overall - still great game, definately worth checking.

Fun, PvE coop game with addictive game loop. You play as one of four dwarfs (scout, driller, gunner, engineer), each with his unique equipment and role during the mission, the missions are varied (mine something, protect the drilldozer, collect alien eggs etc.), each can be played in different cave biome (sand, ice, magma, junglish etc.).
There are no P2W purchases, everything is purely cosmetic and most of the stuff can be bought by the in-game currency (cash + resources, which are obtainable during the missions).
Game offers seasons with it's own rewards and daily missions. Every week there are different Deep Dive, Elite Deep Dive (one "journey" combined of three missions, with no restock after stage completion) and Assignments (series of missions) for "overclocks", which are more or less mods for weapons.

Playing it solo can become bit boring fast but even playing with random people is really fun and addictive. Most of the people know their responsibilities are it's really rare to find someone toxic.

There are few things I don't like though.
Exact same cosmetics are bound per CLASS, so if we want to use something on more dwarfs, we have to buy it multiple times (money sink).
Net code can be somehow unstable, sometimes people lose connection, after which they are not granted with any rewards. When host leaves/gets disconnected EVERYONE gets kicked, that feels really bad...
In-game voice chat doesn't provide any feedback whether we are talking or not, also rarely anyone use it.

TLDR. Really good PvE coop game to play with either friends or randoms.

Early Access Review
Games like Barotrauma are "living" proofs that some developers still care, that not everyone goes solely for the props. Constant updates, sophisticated game mechanics, lots of changes, original content can all be found here.

I've never been into subs or ships in general but I have always liked science fiction with horror vibe (like Alien) and somehow I can find it here, surroundings are believable, overwhelming darkness, going into the abyss with a sub and especially when you leave it is always dangerous. I am surprised how immersive the game is, even though it's 2D, to make it even better I quickly lowered music volume, so I could only hear my my sub, crewmates, monsters and my favorite sonar beep (if someone would make barotrauma in 3D that would be instant buy for me).

Game offers many different mechanics, we can play as different classes, every class has it's own traits/abilities and everyone is needed on board, which makes Barotrauma perfect game for playing coop (single player is also nice, even though bots can sometimes act strange). We can modify subs, craft and deconstruct stuff, mine, shop, fight, explore ruins etc. quite a lot things to do and I bet there will be even more.

We can buy different subs but what is truly great is that the game comes with a built in sub editor, which is just great, not easy but offers huge possibilities, there is also separate editor for characters/monsters. Thanks to these there are tons of mods, which can improve the game even further.

Learning the game might be quite hard at the beginning but instead of giving up try official Discord server, it is really helpful and there is also nice wiki (not fandom one), which also helps a lot.

In general, if you like horrors, subs or science fiction give Barotrauma a try, even if it's not currently on the sale and still under development (lots of stuff to come according to EA roadmap). This is my recent "hidden gem", fully recommed it.

CS:GO Review
Well, hard not to recommend it after all the hours I’ve spent playing it (went from gold to playing with supremes/elites). It is and probably will be my all time favourite team based FPS. In addition it’s easy to play, hard to master, which makes it enjoyable for all the players.

Can’t find many cons beside often toxic community and occasional cheaters. Note that also Playing alone with strangers can be significantly less enjoyable.
