The best online co-operative game on steam right now. You will not find another game like DRG because it succeeds in almost every aspect, even the grind that many players will eventually have to do. There are almost no negatives and if there are, they are more wishes for change than tangibles that the game does wrong.

-Theme: I think this theme should have failed and I was proven wrong. Who knew that dwarfs in space would do so well. The developers completely nail the thematic concept of a corporation sending dwarfs into different worlds for different minerals at an exceeding risk of no return. The humour surrounding this game is excellent, the greediness of the dwarfs and the corporation is fantastic and the way you can be left behind from the very start of the mission and the end of it gives it a undertone of not caring unless it helps my bottom line and, how clumsy everything feels which adds a cartoony aspect to it. Everything encapsulated feels just right and perfect in my opinion.

-Story: I have no clue. I do not think there is one but it really does not need one.

-Voice Acting: Excellent, humorous, adds life to the game and great cues to point you events happening with allies.

-Graphics: Very polygon looking but charming. It looks good, not very CPU intensive and the lightning effects add to the feeling that you are several thousands of metres below ground. Also the effects are so distinguishable and well done, it is not hard to learn quickly what caused such effect.

-Levels: They are procedurally generated so there are a vast amount of different combinations of rooms, biome and spawn locations. What is great about this is the idea that you are not playing the same level through out your playtime and different biome's means different threats. Having different biome's is really wonderful because you are visiting different locations, you have to explore and keep and eye on everything including the roof, each has its different fauna and flora, unique minerals and damaging obstacles, and you will not get tired of them quickly. Each one has their own dirt characteristics. For example sand can be hit once to destroy terrain, others need 2 or 3 hits. This means that you might play differently depending biome or maybe you do not, it is your choice in the end.

There is one slight problem. You will memorise certain rooms and when you keep seeing them, it tends to bore you out. It is rare to see the same level twice but it happens, even if it is a different biome. You will tend to see the same room over and over again.

-Game Play: Absolutely spectacular. The asymmetrical gameplay between the dwarfs is fantastic and each dwarf adds unique abilities which combined together makes them an incredibly deadly team. Weapon customisation also is countless from small upgrades to adding overclock modifications. There are is an abundance of overclock modifications and different upgrade variations, adding massive amounts of depth to your game play and play style. Most of them are overpowered but basically all are viable in a way and some situational, depends on how you want to play.

The enemies are basic but so much fun to fight against. Their targetting system is very good compared to other games as it is rare that they will walk right past you for a better target. Their ability to walk over walls and dig out from almost any surface means you have to be prepared for surprises. What is even more shocking is how each enemy variation can be visibly defined by it's graphical appearance, abilities, importance and the ways that they are killed. This creates the need to learn about weak spots and enemy shooting patterns which combined, means you are unstoppable and they are no threat.

Just the mere fact that you have a base in which almost everything can be interacted with and prepare with your fellow miners for a mission with beers, dance and music, customise your load outs, etc. Really shows quality of work. Being able to customise your hair, beards, hats, suits, axe, etc, really shows how much they value and appreciate your time playing the game because most of it is not paid DLC, it is earned in-game. You may buy the DLC to adds customisation but I think the best is only earned in-game.

-Grind: The grind is brutal. I will be honest, I really loved it the first 100 hours but hated it after the 100 hours. The amount of missions needed to level to 25 is a lot and if you are seeking promotions, doing this basically 3 times to increase your tier on a single dwarf is a lot of work. Like a few of us, getting every single dwarf to gold is a real grind and takes about 300+ hours. This does not include if you fail missions or you are not prioritising double XP missions or not drinks beers to make certain missions faster. You also have to grind a lot to be able to upgrade your weapons and suit, and have to do this individually for every dwarf. Why is this a problem? It is not a problem, it is just tedious at times. The amount of times I quit this game is probably 20. It started to not become fun and I wondered if I would ever 100% this game. This game really does not respect your time on this issue which is it takes forever to get things done. Even the season pass, you would need to play hundreds of missions and countless hours to get everything on it, all the cosmetics available. I understand the logic behind it but I think it just wears down the player more than it motivates.

I truly think this game needs to re-evaluate it's reward systems because in the current state, no one mines gold or does missions without some benefit. I personally think gold needs to give more XP and credits so that it becomes a very useful asset for miners and actually worth mining it. Making it rarer would also make it more beneficial as long as the benefits are above what they are right now, which right now it is useless to mine gold and a waste of time. Also, there should be an XP boost (other than double XP) for missions no one is doing to incentives players to join those lobbies or rather, a higher pay grade. Maybe introduce XP per kill because I have definitely been in games were each player had 400+ kills and we only got a lousy 10k experience for what was an extremely hard mission. Maybe extra XP and credits for every unused nitra at the end of the mission. I think this will go a long way for players who are just starting out and for veterans who want to get all the cosmetics and upgrades the game offers. It would reward players for playing exceptionally good and fast because let's be honest, there is an implicit time limit anyways which is running out of Nitra and ammo.

-Solo: You can play this solo with a miner bot helper which is incredibly useful and makes life less tedious. Not remotely as good as online co-operative to be fair. Solo really has no place in this game because you need the skills and abilities of fellow dwarfs to really get the full potential of this game.

***Wishes: I wish they added another dwarf like the Viking or Berserker who is melee focussed, Master of none which can use all weapons but does not get their upgrades, Surveyor which allows you to find minerals through walls and maybe be able to drop checkpoints in areas you have already explored, and some sort of healer/supplier.

Also add a permanent death difficulty which could be hazard 6 for a way higher risk and reward game play. Right now, hazard 5 is not difficult for veteran players and the rewards gain are too little for the grind needed.
