I don't think it's a great FPS, it feels a bit disconnected & the gun play just isn't a sharp as something like Turbo Overkill. So I feel if you're looking for that fast paced doom like fps title this falls a bit short. The level design is also quite basic.
It is a solid game and if given the option I would have picked neutral rating. £14 seems fair but it's just not for me.
Performance is very much Unreal Engine 4 so I did experience some frame drops down to around 45fps from time to time and this is on a 2070 which is only about 10% quicker than the recommended GPU for the game. 90% of the time I hit the 60fps mark @ 1080p.

I think it's a 7/10 game for me. The good parts. It looks nice and runs well. There is some nice set pieces and the overall UI is easy to use. Voice acting generally is good. The down sides. puzzles far too simple, bosses easy to defeat, limited enemy variation and cut scenes are far too often, especially early in the game.
The character they promoted in the trailers is only in the game for a very short period and is also next to useless as an enemy. Shooting never really feels precise. As the game starts to really get good it's over. The plot is cliche.

Repetitive shooter that's a totally average game. You see enemy, you shoot enemy, you walk around a map. At this point it just seems like if you add 40k to a average game it will get praise way beyond logic.

Early Access Review
Seems quite badly optimised? Ryzen 5 5600, 8gb Ram and RX580 8gb and this game runs like a slide show.
There's no graphics option to turn anything down? So you're stuck on one setting. I had 50fps but the game constantly was stuttering. I had to refund it.

I have never played a game that crashes so much and I was playing some of the first early access titles and bethesda day one releases.

Tried it on low, dx12 and 11, drivers updated. It's hangs and then eventually crashes to desktop.
Probably best to wait for some patch to fix it before buying.

After about 5.5 hours the main campaign is done, there is the option to reply the missions as another character but you're then playing identical missions that have not been adapted for this other character.

I felt that the game started quite nicely on the prison level, very fast paced game-play and generally the earlier levels are much more fun. The maps get worse after you have probably played 1/5 to 1/4 of the whole game and it all looks like a copy and paste job with the levels all feeling very similar.

You become very aware of the map layout and will know when to expect an ambush.

The main enemy that shows themselves throughout the whole game is more of annoyance than a formidable foe. The end battle is in a very tiny arena, it's over within a few minutes and there's no real thought that seems to have gone in to this.

There's a lot of teleporting enemies which for me is just cheap, I mean they are meant to teleport it is part of their design but having them just pop in and out of the maps doesn't add any atmosphere and once again it is an annoyance rather than a nice feature.

Once again the AI is okay but they will just run at you and it becomes a horde mode game where you can just stand in one place and they will just walk up to the end of your gun and let you casually shoot them in the face.
There is a cover system that seems to work well but I just didn't use it much, you have the ability to duck down so what's the point?

Out of Fear 2 and Fear 3, which is the worst? Well it is a close one.
There's some improvements in 3, mainly the weapons feel a bit more brutal and you feel a bit better connected with the combat so I'd probably say that this is just a bit better than 2.

I paid £35 for the pack, fear 1 with all dlc, fear 2 and fear 3, in reality I would have fine just to had given £20 for fear one and forgotten about the other 2.

This game is such a let down after F.E.A.R (1).

Everything in FEAR2 seems to be of a lesser quality.

The AI is awful. It's become a shooting gallery type of game. It really reminded me of Time Crisis or Day of the dead. . .Where the enemies always know where you are and have these scripted events where they just pop out and attack you. You walk in to a location and know you will be ambushed, even if you creep around the enemy seem to know where you are 90% of the time.

The weapons are worse as well, too many scoped rifles, so you spent most of the time looking at the game through a scope.
Special weapons are very slow to fire or have slow projectiles. There's a napalm gun that shoots a blob of sticky fire, sounds fun but it's very uninspired in it's execution. I like the MP-50 Repeating Cannon, it's big and power, chunky goodness, fun to blow enemies apart but there's limited ammo so it's not really viable for a lot of the game. Generally the weapons suck.

We have to have this hud (probably some mod to remove it) on display throughout the game. It's a few lines in a square that go around the edge of the screen, it's part of the gear the soldier is wearing, glasses or some sort of visor. Stuff like that is only an annoyance and added nothing to the game.

Some of the maps are nice, I like the school level but that's about it really.

It's crazy how far away they went from the first game, it felt like the first game was a PC title, built by gaming enthusiast for gaming enthusiast to play and then FEAR2 got dumbed down for the console market and needed to be for everyone.

F.E.A.R is an excellent game.

Very well crafted maps. Great use of lighting. Rewarded for exploration. Alternative routes to take. I was also surprised at how big some of the maps are but pleasantly surprised as they are for me the best thing about this game.

The other thing that really shines in this game is the A.I. They are soldiers and they act like killing machines. They will try to flank you and are happy to throw grenades rather accurately at you if you stay static for too long.
To see A.I go prone so they can crawl under obstacles, take proper cover and communicate to their fellow A.I, they along with the great maps really make this a wonderful experience.

As for the bad stuff,
I don't like a lot of the weapons, you're stuck with burst fire mode rifles or weapons like the HV Penetrator which just look and sound awful. The guns feel a bit hollow and it made me feel a little bit disconnected.

The other issue is ammo, the enemy drop ammo when they die, but its only for the weapon they were using. That means if like me, you really like the pistol/dual pistols, well no enemies use them so you won't really find any ammo for them.

There is a bit where the game will crash, I think it is in the subway level, all you need to do is before you get there turn down your graphics settings to the lowest and it should allow you to continue. After that you can readjust your settings.

So yes, it's a FPS where I hate most of the weapons but all that is forgiven thanks to the Mappers and the people who created and programmed the A.I

This game has some big issues, stuff that I expected would have been polished off for the Steam release but no it's like Metro Exodus all over again. Lazy developers.

My biggest issue is the A.I. If you want to run a long range weapon build then the moronic A.I will just stand around and let you shoot them. If you are 150 meters away with a rifle and attack them, they will be alerted and they will run towards you, but after a while they reset and just run back to their original location.

The other issue with the A.I is that they seem to be deaf, you can kill someone within a few meters of an other enemy and they will not react to the gun shots.

Finally with the A.I is their vision. I am not using a stealth build so I don't have enhanced sneak or anything of nature yet the A.I cannot see me right in front of them. I am 20 meters away but for them, it's just too much effort and this is using the hard difficulty setting.

Visually it's not really my thing, there's too many bright colours, but I thought there was a mode/option to tone that down? A lot of neon colours and bright effects, could give some people a head ache.

The indoors areas look fine but the outside, for some reason it looks like crap but that could be down to my PC.
Running this on a Ryzen 3 1600, 16gb DD4 3200mhz, SSD and RX580 8GB and I have to run it on a medium setting at 1080p to get 60fps. The outside areas just have so many jagged edges, it looks blurry and basically like Fallout New Vegas in some areas, very outdated look but maybe some ini file alterations can fix it.

Not really what I had hoped for and with a 12-15 hour main story it going to be over quite quickly but that could be a blessing is disguise.

Early Access Review
Great little FPS game.

I can't really fault it & for the £9, it's amazing.

If you like fast paced FPS games that are difficult then I think you will enjoy it.

It is rogue like so you will die and have to start again, even so I have not found it boring, lvl 30+ and sometime still finding the first boss hard to beat due to RNG upgrades.

There's no real depth to any story or character development, it's basically go shoot things and find upgrades.

Oh and just like real life, the Dogs are better than Cats.

Graphically it's okay, there is some nice effects and my R5 1600, 16gb and rx580 can run it with ease at 1080p.
