If art is the process of capturing the execution state of the human soul, this experience is one in beautiful agony. It's a story of sadness and hopelessness in its most raw form. A man literally adrift in a seas of loss, and he finds an island that seems as if it were carved from the sea itself for him alone. As he explores it we get to experience his journey as he searches for closure that it seems he'll never find.

It's a truly moving experience. I have never seen Source look this beautiful. This is without a doubt the most beautiful thing I've ever experienced. From the movement of the grass in the wind to the furious spray of the ocean mist, Dear Esther draws you in. When I played this game in its original form a few years ago, I was reminded of parts of Ender's game (the parts where the computer generates a unique world only for Ender.) It felt like something had been created just for me.

The game is $9.99 on Steam. For the love of God, this developer deserves it.
