Ancient Planet is a tower defense game that took many years to evolve from a grindy little beast into a great representative of its genre. As an Android port, the game deliberately got you stuck to make you buy points to upgrade your weapons.

When I wrote my first review back in 2015, I did not recommend the game. It was frustrating as hell because the developers hadn't cared to change the difficulty before releasing the game on Steam.

Now four years later, after reading my review, somebody suggested I probably wasn't fit to play tower defense games. So I checked the updates and found out that since 2015 the developers added 24! updates to the game. This includes an easy difficulty with update 1.0.14 on 7. July 2017 and significantly increased rewards for completed levels with update 1.0.13 on 30. June 2017. The later was supposed to remove the need for grinding.

After continuing to play where I got stuck many years ago, the game is still not easy on 'easy' difficulty, but it turned out to be a great game. I was finally able to finish the campaign and the game is a lot of fun.

Pros:
- nice graphics
- great difficulty on easy (still not easy)
- good music
- good level design
- interesting mechanics to collect scrap and make money
- it's fun!

Cons:
- took the developers years to fix it (but thank you anyway)

Hey, I appreciate that you went so far and took another look at the game and updated the review because of my comment, it's even positive now. An up to date review should help everyone. I'm sure anyone is fit to play TD games anyway they want though. Afaik they are especially popular with casuals on mobile.

Did you notice that I wrote the review in 2015? That's when I played the game.

In the meantime, the developers added 24! updates to the game. This includes an easy difficulty with Update 1.0.14 on 7. July 2017 and significantly increased rewards for completed levels with Update 1.0.13 on 30. June 2017. The later was supposed to remove the need for grinding.

So it's very likely that the game has changed since I played it four years ago.
I will give it another try to find out.
If you check older reviews of the game you will find many players complaining about the grind.

Endless grinding? There is some grinding which is fine since you learn and get interesting upgrades for it. I got 100% (meaning: game completed, including all achievements) in around 18h. That's right, if you fail you shouldn't get a thing. In most TD games I reset and try to get full stars and no lifes lost if my strat is lacking. Optimizing a strat and succeding is where the fun is in TD games.

I don't consider myself the best TD player. Maybe I was fortunate to figure out that the slow tower is your best friend early on.

Can't say it wasn't worth it. Got this from a bundle.
