To be fair, it's a good sim, still probably the best option besides iRacing.

Poor selection of tracks though. ISI has left this mostly to the modding community and it's a horrid mess. We need more tracks that have enough grid boxes and pit stalls for the large fields rF2 can support.

My negative review is all about the Steam integration...worst decision ISI ever made IMO as I only run in leagues, and Steam is not well suited for this.

The Steam overlay is very annoying and can be distracting...when a friend launches a game I get a pop up notification when in car. I realize I can turn the overlay off...but I prefer it on for taking screens. If Steam had the option to turn off only notifications (maybe it does and I'm not aware) it would be much better.

Also, I prefer to keep my install very, very clean. I only have league mod installed and the required tracks at any one time. So synching with Workshop every time I launch is unnceccasary and the delay while it synches gets annoying at every launch. It also seems to 'force' new content downloads on me. No thanks. I prefer to choose what and when I install any new content (official or mods).

Last, I detest background aps running on racenights...and Steam is an intrusive hog at the best of times.

Finally, I pity the fool who tries to run a league event on Tuesday night here in North America with Steam's rolling updates interupting service without notice.

Hopefully the new partnership will see some improvements.

You can turn off those notifications. Steam > Settings > Friends > "When any friend joins a game"

Leagues can use the workshop too, to auto-update their content.
You can also easily roll back to other builds with just a few clicks.

I don't disagree with you myself at all but I don't think the review creator is looking for that (the Steam part) as he's already a part of a league.

You can unsubscribe from all items and manually install the content you want as in the old way. Steam is only mandatory if you want updates in the future.
Steam is good for the rF2 community, it will unite us all and will bring more people to rF2.
The workshop is great, as it auto-updates your mods.

Oh that's unfortunate. But this is how almost every game will go in future, so complaining about it is almost moot.

Actually, now Steam is mandatory...even for those who purchased RF2 from their site. So in fact, everyone running rF2 must use the Steam version.

Thank you so much for the clarification.

You can right click on any game in library (rFactor 2 in your case) and in properties untick "Enable steam overlay while in-game"

If you didn't want Steam for it so much, you could have gone on ISI's website and buy the game with lifetime online subscription but it would have cost far more than on Steam..

Ya I rage reviewed. I should say, I only run in leagues and Steam is not ideal for this.

The Steam overlay is very annoying...when a friend launches a game I get a pop up notification when in car. I realize I can turn the overlay off...but I prefer it on for other games and taking screens. If Steam had the option to turn off only notifications (maybe it does and I'm not aware) it would be much better.

What exactly is wrong with it? Don't have the game, so no idea what you don't like about it
