Time was, a man could walk these streets and not be afraid. Once you didn't have to worry about the thug on the corner dealing poison to your children or that the shadow in the alley that might hide a junky with a knife and just enough working brain left to decide you have what he needs to get his next fix. You could look at a storm drain and not wonder if the sewer cults' next M-gas attack would leave YOUR children writhing tentacular gnashing masses like on the news, or if the van passing by was scanning your blood type so the organ gangers inside could figure out who was going to add your limbs and eyes to their anatomy. Time was, fear was a luxury. Now it's a necessity. It's time the bad guys know that too. It's time for the nevermen.
