at 6:15 to 6:30 in you can see a corp automatically form up a regiment to cover an exposed flank.
The game has lots of other features like 550 uniforms and such but thats enough text for now NOW GET ON DAMNIT

So while a corp(group of 2 or more regiments) may make half regiment movements within its larger corp formation. If it's ever going to help another corp it'll send at least a regiment.
games called histwar: les grognards
(les grognards means the groaners, its so named because the old imperial guard of napoleon's famous was named so because they were famous for being able to complain/groan directly to napoleon and recieve no punishment)

1:15 or so in you can see like 10 men break off from a formation of men automatically (there forming a skirmish with a nearby regiments 10 or so men out in front of the corp)

so it'll say your line encounters inferior line, do you form line and charge, form column and charge, form line and halt, form column and halt etc.
You can also dicate what percentage of a regiment/corp you want to be the reserve. Reserves are used for more than just plugging gaps though that helps.
Partly there for moral, moral is affected by unit density, a line formation with no reserves is large but under attack it quickly loses density because the gaps aren't filled.
The other is that A.I will use the reserves for
A. covering a flank, It will automatically take part of a unit and form it on the flank of the rest of the unit if it feels the flank is threatened.
B. part of regiment A may be sent to help Regiment B by the corp commander.
C. Regiment A which is part of Corp A may be sent by the corp commander to help Corp B.
I don't think a part of a regiment would ever be sent though, basically regiment is the smallest unit size.
