TL;DR: Scorn is an unparalleled experience if you go into it with the right expectations, but is exceptional in a very limited manner, and will be frustrating if you are expecting more.

Scorn is morbidly, hauntingly beautiful at the same time that it is unrelentingly bleak, disgusting, and merciless in it's depiction of an alien world.

I feel that expecting Scorn to be anything more than an interactive museum piece with philosophical overtones is overselling the premise. Everything in the game has been compromised in service of meeting specific stylistic goals - so it's a good thing the visual and audio design is superlative: Scorn has the most cohesive and consistent 'alien world' environment and audio design that I've experienced since Metroid Prime 2.

Scorn is more an "experience" than a game. The combat is frequently frustrating and the puzzles are either too obviously mechanically a puzzle dressed in Zdzisław Beksiński clothes (in example, one is just "Rush Hour" but with horrible alien eggs instead of cars) or trial-and-error contextual buttons. Anyone looking for slick, polished game mechanics will be left extremely wanting. But, of course, there's a sensation that even these frustrations are intentional and part of the experience.

I loved Scorn. It succeeds mightily at what it attempts, but that narrow goal certainly isn't for everyone.
