#Pound University

Join #university and get schooled in tf2.

This steam group is the recruitment bed for future #u teams. Our goal is to build teams from the ground up so that the competitive TF2 community can benefit from the vast amounts of skilled public gamers currently playing TF2.

Most of us are located on the gamesurge IRC network in channel #pound.

Team #pound (which is the mentor team for #u teams) has been very successful in the 8v8 format for team fortress 2. Most of #pound's members at one point in their online careers became familiar with competitive gaming because someone approached them on the subject from a public gaming server. For most of us this didn't happen when we started playing TF2 but rather another older game we had previously played. Our members noticed how immensely popular TF2 has become to the average public player, so we decided that the TF2 community needed an outreach program to bring in new competitive players from the wealth of public TF2 servers.

The TF2 competitive community has grown a lot over the last year, the 6v6 format has become a strong top tier format. This group’s goals are to help transition players from public servers to competitive TF2 by introducing them to the 8v8 format. The 8v8 format is generally thought of as a more causal format from 6v6 so it is the perfect format for introducing new competitive players.

One of the major problems with TF2's competitive community is that the learning curve on team work and strategy for new teams is enough to stymie any new team’s interest in the game. Our contribution to the solution of this problem is that #pound will build a sister team so that they might learn from our success and experience in competitive match play. The end goal is to produce a stable team of players who may not be familiar with the tf2 competitive community, but eventually their team will break away from #pound to become their own stand alone team. At this point #pound will be able to recreate the process with another team of players. This project is called #university (#u).
